Is Eagle Rare an Approachable Whiskey?
Eagle Rare is one of the most approachable whiskeys I have found.
It is such an easy pour but also offers a very nice balance of flavors that nearly anyone would enjoy.
Is Eagle Rare Complex?
Eagle Rare offers a few layers of flavors.
While none of the flavors are particularly deep, they blend well into an extremely easy-to-drink whiskey.
It starts off with a bit of sweet caramel and butterscotch which then turns into a bit of oak mixed with light fruits. I definitely get a bit of orange zest and apricot.
If finishes out by leaving you with a lovely combination of sweet caramel, toasted oak, and light fruits with just the tiniest bit of lingering pepper.
What are Eagle Rare’s strongest attributes/flavors?
Eagle Rare is extremely smooth and is one of the easiest whiskeys to drink. While it doesn’t blow you away in any particular flavor, it combines many of your quintessential bourbon flavors into one in a very well-balanced pour.
Is Eagle Rare a go-to whiskey?
If I could find Eagle Rare on the shelf in my area regularly, this would be my go-to whiskey.
Is Eagle Rare priced accurately to its quality?
Eagle Rare is priced perfectly to its quality.
At MSRP, Eagle Rare costs $35-40 in my area and it’s worth every penny.
As for the secondary market, a bottle of Eagle Rare can often go for $80-100 and I think that is a bit much.
Conclusion for Eagle Rare 10 Year
Eagle Rare is one of the better whiskeys I’ve had in the under $100 price range.
Not only is it so easy to drink, but it’s an excellent example of what a bourbon should taste like so it is perfect to share with your friends who are just getting into whiskey and are curious whether they like it or not.
Side Story About My First Taste Of Eagle Rare
The first time I had a taste of Eagle Rare was at the Buffalo Trace Distillery when I went on a tour with my friends Chuck and Andy (the other founders of this site).
We took the tour and learned more about the Buffalo Trace distillery and after the tour, we had a tasting.
We got to try EH Taylor, Buffalo Trace, Eagle Rare, and Buffalo Trace Bourbon Cream.
So after we finished the tasting, we really enjoyed the Eagle Rare and asked to buy a bottle but they didn’t even have any for sale!
So we looked all over the area to see if we could find one with no luck.
BUT…. the silver lining in the story is that an employee at the liquor store told us they were out of Eagle Rare, but he had a favorite whiskey that he thought was even better.
He mentioned it to us and we picked up a bottle.
Little did we know that the bottle he suggested would become one of my all-time favorite bourbons – New Riff Single Barrel Bourbon.
When I got home from the trip, I managed to track down a website that would ship Eagle Rare to me and finally got a bottle of my own.
In Pennsylvania, it’s very rare to see a bottle on the shelves and people often wait in lines outside of the stores here just to get all the Buffalo Trace bottles.
Again though, if you see a bottle, definitely pick it up. It is an excellent whiskey.
