Is Angel’s Envy Bourbon an Approachable Whiskey?

Angel’s Envy is a fairly approachable whiskey. It’s easy to drink but does have a little more heat than some of the other bourbons in its price range.

Is Angel’s Envy Bourbon Complex?

Angel’s Envy has a few layers of flavor, but nothing is overpowering. It starts with your typical toasted oak and vanilla with a little brown sugar toast and leaves you with a light hint of fruits, pepper, and rye spice.

What are Angel’s Envy Bourbon’s strongest attributes/flavors?

Angel’s Envy Bourbon has an interesting brown sugar or maple note to it that sweetens it up. There are also some fruit notes that I wouldn’t expect from the port wine barrels since they’re a little more citrusy than the dark fruits like cherry and plum you’d normally see from a port wine barrel finish.

Is Angel’s Envy Bourbon a go-to whiskey?

I could see Angel’s Envy Bourbon being a go-to whiskey for many. It’s at a fairly decent price point of $50. and offers pretty typical bourbon flavors. I would probably choose a bourbon like New Riff Single Barrel ($50) or even Elijah Craig ($35) over this bottle though.

Is Angel’s Envy Bourbon priced accurately to its quality?

Angel’s Envy is priced a bit above its quality for me, but they can get away with it because the bottle really stands out on a shelf.

The marketing for this one has really done an excellent job because almost everyone I know always wants to try this bottle off my shelf first.

Conclusion for Angel’s Envy Bourbon

Overall, I am a fan of Angel’s Envy Bourbon. It’s a solid whiskey.

However, my opinion may be a bit skewed because their Angel’s Envy Rye Whiskey finished in Rum Casks is absolutely amazing and is one of my favorite whiskeys.

Even though it is twice the price, I absolutely recommend you buy a bottle of Angel’s Envy Rye because it is literally a dessert in a glass. Cinnamon Toast Crunch with every sip.

That being said, if you really want a whiskey on your shelf that looks beautiful and will have everyone asking you to try it, Angel’s Envy Bourbon is a decent buy (If you can’t find the Rye).

Side Note – Story

When my friends and I went on the Kentucky Bourbon Trail, we decided to visit the Angel’s Envy distillery because Angel’s Envy Rye was one of the best whiskeys I’d ever had (even though I didn’t know that’s what it was).

My friend and I had visited a bar and while there, we met a guy next to us that was sharing his favorite whiskey on every shelf in the bar. We had asked him what his favorite whiskeys are since we were beginners and he went through every single shelf, but not just the top, middle, and bottom shelves.

He went through each shelf – left to right – for each of the top, middle, and bottom shelves. Each bottle he suggested, he got each of us a taste and we proceeded to drink quite a bit of whiskey that night.

Angel’s Envy was one of the names I remembered afterward.

So when we had the opportunity to visit the distillery, I was pretty excited. I was eager to see which bottle I may have had that night because I didn’t think it was their standard bourbon.

So when we showed up, we signed up and only paid $10 for the tour which was very nice. Their distillery is beautiful and our tour guide was excellent.

So after the tour of the distillery, it was time to do the tasting.

I was prepared to try a few samples and when it was time to sample…. there was only one glass!

Apparently, Angel’s Envy doesn’t give you a sample of the Angel’s Envy Finished Rye and only gave us a taste of the bourbon… and a piece of chocolate.

Much to my disappointment, I felt let down that my favorite whiskey was maybe not as good as I had remembered.

Over a year later, I finally saw a bottle of Angel’s Envy Rye finished in Rum Casks and bought it hoping it would be the one I remembered.

Lo and Behold, it was!

Each sip of it tastes like buttery cinnamon sugar toast and brown sugar.

It’s probably in my top 10 favorite whiskeys and is a real treat to sip on.

I’m still a fan of Angel’s Envy overall because they really do make excellent bottles, but I really hope they expand their tasting experience because I feel like they’d sell 5x the bottles in the distillery if they let people sample the Finished Rye.

My favorite under 50$ bourbon hands down.

Never disappoints.
