Is Very Olde St. Nick Harvest Rye an Approachable Whisky?

Very Olde St. Nice Harvest Rye is cask strength and an extremely powerful whiskey.

Right off the bat, you get smacked with a bold rye grain and rye spice that will shock all of your taste buds.

The flavors are all quite nice, but this is definitely not a whiskey for beginners.

Is Very Olde St. Nick Harvest Rye Complex?

Very Olde St. Nick Harvest Rye has a lot of complexity and depth of flavor.

It starts with an extremely rye forward flavor profile full of rye spice, rye grain, pepper, earthy and grassy notes.

It says it’s a cask strength rye and that is exactly what it is.

Behind the bold rye spice, you get a bit of toasted oak and caramel sweetness, but nothing to compete with the rye spice.

You get a nice layer of herbs and fruit that round out the flavor profile and it finishes up with an extremely bold finish that heats up your entire mouth with a lingering oily and rewarding finish.

As you continue to drink (and your pain receptors start to numb), this one starts to smooth out and you start detecing more of the rich creamy flavors.

What are Very Olde St. Nick Harvest Rye’s strongest attributes/flavors?

Very Olde St. Nick Harvest Rye says that it is a cask strength rye whiskey and that is exactly what it delivers.

It is full of all the rye spice you could imagine and really smacks your taste buds for a loop.

The best thing about this whiskey is that despite is being quite hot and spicy, the flavors are very nice and quite rewarding.

Is Very Olde St. Nick Harvest Rye a go-to whiskey?

So I love myself a good rye whiskey and this one is no exception.

However, since it packs to much heat I don’t think this is one that I would drink on a regular basis even if it was a cheaper bottle.

This is a whiskey that you pour on special occasions when you’re in the mood for a power-packed rye whiskey full of earthy, grassy, rye grain and spice flavors.

Is Very Olde St. Nick Harvest Rye priced accurately to its quality?

Very Olde St. Nick Harvest Rye is a whiskey that I have had my eye on at the local liquor store for over 2 years.

Since it was priced at nearly $200, I never pulled the trigger on it.

But just this week, it went on clearance sale for $110 so now was my chance to give it a shot.

After finally being able to taste this bottle, I would have to say that despite it being an excellent rye whiskey, I don’t see the appeal putting it at the $180 price point.

I’m satisfied with my purchase at $110, but that’s about as high as I would go on this one.

Conclusion for Very Olde St. Nick Harvest Rye Whiskey

Overall, Very Olde St. Nick Harvest Rye is an excellent whiskey that is one of the richest and fullest flavor profiles that I have found in a rye whiskey.

The finish is spectacular and completely dries out your palate which is a quality i love.

However, despite being excellent, I’m glad I found this bottle on clearance and it doesn’t surprise me that it sat on the shelves in my area for over 2 years.

It kind of puzzles me what their strategy is with this bottle.

They state on the bottle that everything they make is in “miniscule 1-3 barrel batches” which makes sense why they may need to charge a higher price to offer top quality with such limited quantity.

However, $180 is such a high price regardless of output even if they want to portray a luxury limited-quantity product.

It is kind of a shame to me that the price is so high because I do really enjoy the pour.

To conclude, I think this is an excellent whiskey if you’re a fan of high-proof rye whiskey.

It is one of the richest rye whiskeys I have tasted and the finish is pretty remarkable.

If you have the money to spend and want to splurge, this is a bottle that offers really nice flavors.

But if you’re looking for a more budget-friendly option, the following are some of my favorites:
