Is Peerless Rye an Approachable Whiskey?

Peerless Rye has a bit of heat to it, but it’s a smooth and flavorful pour. I would assume beginner whiskey drinkers may be a bit taken aback by this one at first, but any experienced whiskey drinker will appreciate the flavors and buttery mouthfeel from being non-chill filtered.

Is Peerless Rye Whiskey Complex?

Peerless Rye Whiskey is a complex whiskey. It has your typical caramel and oak flavors, but it adds a lot on top of that basic layer. The most prominent is the pepper and spice you’ll notice just after the sweet honey and caramel flavors pass. This adds the heat level to this whiskey and it’s big and bold.

But my favorite layer to this Peerless Rye is the oily and buttery mouthfeel you get with each sip. This whiskey is barrel-proof and non-chill filtered which means that none of the fats and oils have been removed.

I’m a sucker for non-chill filtered whiskeys because I just love the buttery texture that coats your entire mouth with each sip. Peerless Rye does this well.

What are Peerless Rye Whiskey’s strongest attributes/flavors?

Again, Peerless Rye Whiskey’s strongest attribute for me is the buttery mouthfeel and intensity of flavor offered from being barrel-proof and non-chill filtered.

Is Peerless Rye a go-to whiskey?

Peerless Rye Whiskey is a whiskey I have on special occasions. While I could probably drink this whiskey as a go-to, it does have a very steep price tag for a Rye.

Is Peerless Rye Whiskey priced accurately to its quality?

I rarely pay $90 for a bourbon or rye whiskey.

Peerless Rye Whiskey is a bottle that I will likely always have on my shelf and is worth the $90 price tag.

Conclusion for Peerless Rye Whiskey

Peerless Rye Whiskey is one of the best rye whiskeys I’ve ever had and I think it is worth every penny.

This particular bottle that I am reviewing has a special meaning to me as it was a gift from a good friend of mine for being the Godfather to his beautiful daughter Eleanora.

While we were in Kentucky on the bourbon trail, we visited Doc Crow’s bar and restaurant in Louisville, Kentucky and it was the first time my friend had ever had Peerless whiskey. We were both obviously fans and really enjoyed our pours and he decided to get me this bottle to celebrate his daughter’s baptism and our friendship.

So while my tastings of whiskey are pretty impartial to emotion, this particular bottle does get a slight leg up in my book.

If you see a bottle of Peerless Rye on the shelf, I’d recommend shelling out the extra cash and adding this bottle to your bar for special occasions and to show off to friends when the come to visit.
