Old Soul High Rye Bourbon Tasting Notes

Appearance: Dark Amber

Nose: Caramel, honey, vanilla, toasted oak, light fruits, caramel apple, citrus, brown sugar, cinnamon, baking spice

Palate: Honey sweetness, caramel, toasted oak, vanilla, smooth rye spices, light fruits, apple, apricot, citrus, black pepper, cinnamon, reminds me of the caramel candies with vanilla cream in the center (like cowtales candy)

Finish: Smooth and easy finish – goes down extremely smoothly and has a lot of nice sweet caramel, toasted oak, and fruit notes with a bit of pepper and rye spice on the tail end

Is Old Soul High Rye Bourbon an Approachable Whiskey?

Old Soul High Rye Bourbon is a very approachable whiskey.

It drinks very smoothly and is packed with nice inviting flavors that even a beginner to whiskey would enjoy.

Even though it is labeled as a high-rye bourbon and has 21% rye in the mash bill, this whiskey is not hot or spicy in the slightest.

The spices remind me more of cinnamon spice, baking spice, and even a bit of oaky tannic spice rather than the hot and spicy rye spice many think of when it comes to rye whiskey.

Is Old Soul High Rye Bourbon Complex?

Old Soul High Rye bourbon has a few layers of complexity and flavor.

It starts with a sweet and inviting nose that is full of honey and caramel sweetness, oak, vanilla, and fruit notes.

On the palate, the rye spice comes into play and you get a well-balanced whiskey that is still mostly sweet from the corn mash bill, but layered with enough spice and peppery flavor to add just enough kick to your taste buds to wake them up.

In addition, it has a nice layer of fruit notes that add to the sweetness and make this a whiskey that most will enjoy.

What are Old Soul High Rye Bourbon’s strongest attributes/flavors?

Old Soul High Rye bourbon’s strongest attribute is the delicate balance of sweet caramel, vanilla, and oak from the typical bourbon flavors paired with just the right amount of rye spice and fruit notes to create a smooth and flavorful experience that is way too easy to finish the entire glass.

Is Old Soul High Rye Bourbon a go-to whiskey?

Old Soul High Rye Bourbon has a nice price point and is very easy to drink.

This could easily be a go-to whiskey.

Unfortunately, it is not readily available in my state of Pennsylvania, so the only time I can find this bottle is when I’m out of town.

With that being said, if I could find it more easily I would certainly be drinking this one a bit more often.

Is Old Soul High Rye Bourbon priced accurately to its quality?

Old Soul High Rye Bourbon delivers on its price tag.

$50 is a great price point for this one and it offers flavors right in that price range.

I would buy another bottle at this price.

Conclusion for Old Soul High Rye Bourbon

Old Soul High Rye Bourbon is a very enjoyable whiskey.

I’m very pleased with the sweet and almost caramel candy-like flavors this whiskey offers.

In addition to the sweet candy notes though, I am even more impressed with the balance of rye spice that isn’t overpowering or too hot and spicy.

This is just a solid all-around whiskey and I think anyone who purchases it will be pleased with their purchase.
