Stagg Batch 19 22B Tasting Notes
Appearance: Dark Amber
Nose: Rich caramel, bold oak, vanilla, maple, dark fruits, black cherry, plum, leather, baking spice, cinnamon, hints of citrus
Palate: Heavy caramel, bold oak, vanilla, dark fruits, black cherry, citrus, black pepper, leather
Finish: Long heavy oily finish that coats your entire mouth for over 60 seconds but also has a lot of heat to it – leaves you with rich caramel, oak, and dark fruits but also bold spice and pepper
Stagg Jr vs Stagg
These bottles used to be labeled as Stagg Jr prior to Summer 2022.
After Summer 2022, they removed the “Jr” label from the bottles and started releasing them as just Stagg with a paired batch number.
Since there are only two releases of Stagg per year, you will see the newer batch numbers printed directly on the label saying 22A for release one of 2022 and 22B for release two of 2022.
In 2023, it appears that they released both a Spring and Summer so we will likely be seeing a Winter release as well so you may see 23A, 23B, and 23C this year.
Is Stagg Batch 19 22B an Approachable Whiskey?
Stagg Jr is a big and bold heavy hitter with quite a bit of heat on the finish.
This is not a whiskey for beginners.
Is Stagg Batch 19 22B Complex?
Stagg Batch 19 22B has a lot of your traditional bourbon flavors – caramel, heavy oak, vanilla, dark fruit notes, hints of citrus, and a ton of oaky tannic spice.
I’m a fan of big and bold whiskeys that pack a punch.
This bottle is almost a bit too hot for my taste and is one that you can feel the 65% ABV on every single sip.
I enjoy this bottle when I’m looking for a nice powerful pour after a long day.
What are Stagg Batch 19 22B’s strongest attributes/flavors?
Stagg Jr is a whiskey that will knock your socks off.
Every sip you take of this one will send your taste buds into a frenzy.
Is Stagg Batch 19 22B a go-to whiskey?
Stagg Jr is a special occasion whiskey.
It’s quite difficult to find here in Pennsylvania and this bottle was won from the Fine Wine and Good Spirits lottery.
Is Stagg Batch 19 22B priced accurately to its quality?
Stagg delivers on its price tag.
For $70, you get a bourbon that is easily one of the boldest and unfiltered experiences of bourbon that you will find in a bottle.
Along with that unfiltered experience comes a lot of bold flavors along with a lot of heat on the palate.
However, I would not pay a ton more than MSRP on this bottle because it is not a whiskey I would drink regularly.
Conclusion for Stagg Batch 19 22B
Stagg is a whiskey that is known for its unfiltered bourbon experience.
It is high ABV, full of flavor, and similar to drinking whiskey directly out of a well-aged barrel.
I still prefer my first bottle of Stagg Jr Batch 14 because it has a little more of the sweeter flavors and a bit less heat.
If you’ve never had Stagg bourbon before, I’d recommend picking up a bottle if you can find it at MSRP.
