Slow & Low – Rock and Rye Tasting Notes

Is Slow & Low – Rock and Rye an Approachable Whiskey?

Slow & Low Rock and Rye is an old-fashioned in a bottle.

The label says:

Straight Rye Whiskey, Rock Candy, Raw Honey, Aromatic Bitters & Naval Orange

This bottle is intended to be poured over a large ice cube and drank straight.

Is Slow & Low – Rock and Rye Complex?

Slow & Low Rock and Rye is pretty straightforward.

You’re getting a pre-made old-fashioned in a bottle.

This particular mix is a bit heavy on the orange citrus and would need some tweaking if I were to serve this to guests.

It does have all of the traditional old-fashioned flavors though – rye whiskey, sugar, bitters, and orange citrus.

What are Slow & Low – Rock and Rye’s strongest attributes/flavors?

Slow & Low Rock and Rye’s strongest attribute is that it is loaded with orange citrus.

Is Slow & Low – Rock and Rye a go-to whiskey?

Slow & Low Rock and Rye is a little pricier than I would prefer for a pre-made old-fashioned mix, but if you’re in a pinch and need some quick cocktails, it can get you by.

I would definitely recommend picking up a $30 bottle of Elijah Craig or $25 Old Forester and making your old-fashioned from scratch though.

The quality just isn’t anywhere near the same.

Is Slow & Low – Rock and Rye priced accurately to its quality?

If Slow & Low Rock and Rye were $15-20, I would be more likely to recommend this to people.

At $30, I think it is just better to get a solid bottle of whiskey and make your own old-fashioned from scratch.

Conclusion for Slow & Low – Rock and Rye

Slow & Low Rock and Rye was a bottle I had wanted to try for a while.

I’m a huge fan of old-fashioned cocktails so I may be a bit picky, but I was hoping this pre-made cocktail mix would be slightly better for the price tag.

If you’re in a pinch and need something quick to serve people with no effort, this may get you by, but you’d still want to tweak it with a little more simple syrup to compensate for the extremely citrus-heavy notes.
