Is Heaven Hill – Grain to Glass Rye an Approachable Whiskey?
Heaven Hill Grain to Glass Rye Whiskey packs quite a punch and leads with 61.6% ABV packed with rye spice and earthy, pepper notes.
This is not a whiskey I would recommend for beginners, but experienced whiskey drinkers will likely enjoy the layers of flavor in each sip of this one.
Is Heaven Hill – Grain to Glass Rye Complex?
Heaven Hill’s Grain to Glass Rye Whiskey has quite a few layers of complexity to it.
It starts out with exactly what the bottle advertises – bold rye grain directly into your glass.
At first, you’ll just get a blast of rye grain which is full of rye spice and earthy pepper notes.
But after the spice subsides, you’ll notice subtle flavors of red fruits, then maybe a bit of citrus, then a sweet caramel or honey will sweep across your palate.
This pour was very interesting to me because it kept evolving as I took more sips which is a quality I really enjoy in my whiskeys.
The finish is quite bold and still full of rye spice, earthy grain, and peppery spice. It does leave you with little bits of fruit and sweetness, but they come and go as the finish clears out.
What are Heaven Hill – Grain to Glass Rye’s strongest attributes/flavors?
Heaven Hill did an excellent job of delivering exactly what they advertised – Bold grain flavors directly into your glass.
I’ve had a lot of rye whiskeys and not every bottle of rye puts the rye grain and rye spice flavors front and center with no apologies.
Heaven Hill’s Grain to Glass Rye does exactly that.
It doesn’t hold back, it doesn’t water it down, it doesn’t chill filter and remove the oils – it delivers as full a grain flavor as it can directly to your taste buds.
Is Heaven Hill – Grain to Glass Rye a go-to whiskey?
This bottle of Heaven Hill’s Grain to Glass Rye Whiskey is a limited release, so I will likely be reserving this bottle for special occasions and to share with my good friends who love rye whiskey.
Is Heaven Hill – Grain to Glass Rye priced accurately to its quality?
Heaven Hill has delivered exactly what it set out to so I will say that this bottle delivers on its price tag because it is an excellent expression of bold, unapologetic rye whiskey.
Conclusion for Heaven Hill – Grain to Glass Rye Whiskey
This is the third bottle I’ve reviewed and the final piece to my complete Heaven Hill Grain to Glass Whiskey Review series.
After reviewing the Heaven Hill Grain to Glass Bourbon and Heaven Hill Grain to Glass Wheated Bourbon, I will say that the Grain to Glass Rye Whiskey is my 2nd favorite of the series.
I wasn’t quite sure what to expect from the Grain to Glass bottles, but after tasting them, it is quite clear that Heaven Hill wanted to shine a light on their grain and specific corn seed varietal and they definitely succeeded.
If you’re a fan of rye whiskey, enjoy a bold cask strength non-chill filtered whiskey, or are just looking to learn more about rye whiskey – this is a great bottle to pick up.
