Glenlivet 21 Year Archive Tasting Notes

Nose: Sweet molasses and vanilla, toasted oak, candied nuts, dried apricots

Palate: Bold fruit flavors blended with rich charred oak, sweet caramel, and candied nuts. Reminds me of a bag of my favorite mixed nuts and dried fruits that I’d eat on a camping trip.

Finish: Long finish with deep candied fruit flavors

Is Glenlivet 21 Year Archive Approachable?

Glenlivet 21 Year Scotch whisky is a much higher level than a beginner whisky. While it’s very easy to drink, I wouldn’t waste this one on a beginner whisky drinker.

Is Glenlivet 21 Year Archive Complex?

Glenlivet 21 Year is definitely complex. Not only does it have the wonderful flavors of the Glenlivet 18 year, but it stacks a few layers of flavor on top of it. Rather than just fruit flavors, Glenlivet 21 compounds on the fruits flavors and combines them with the rich caramel flavors of the extra years in the barrel to create a flavor that is much more like a candied fruit or dried fruit flavor you’d find in a supermarket.

What are Glenlivet 21 Year Archive’s strongest attributes/flavors?

Glenlivet 21 Years strongest attribute is definitely its complexity. The layers of this whisky are top-tier and this is a whisky any Scotch connoisseur will appreciate.

Is Glenlivet 21 Year Archive a go-to whisky?

While I wish this could be my go-to whisky, it is quite pricey. At the $300+ price point, this is one that is reserved for special occasions.

Is Glenlivet 21 Year Archive priced accurately to its quality?

Being $300+ is this whisky worth the price tag? If you are looking for a top-tier whisky that will give you an experience unlike most others….then yes, this whisky is worth the price tag. The level of flavors I am tasting in this one are far superior to the Glenlivet 18 year and my go-to favorite, the Glenlivet 15 Year.

With that being said, would I buy this bottle often? No. This is a bottle I got as a gift from my friends for my birthday and it is a bottle that I will keep on the shelf for very special occasions and only share with people I know will appreciate its value.

Final verdict, if you have the money to spend, this bottle will likely not disappoint. But will it beat a Balvenie 21 Year at the same price point? I’m not so sure.
