George Remus has quite a bit of rye spice and pepper which may come off as “heat” to some, but it actually drinks quite smoothly.

It is full of rich caramel and vanilla flavors that help balance the spicy pepper and rye spice notes.

Anyone who is a fan of rye whiskey is really going to love this one.

George Remus Highest Rye has a lot of flavor and complexity.

It starts with rich caramel, vanilla, and oak flavors as you would expect from a bourbon, but since this one is only 51% corn and 49% rye, you get an almost equal balance of sweet and spice.

After the bourbon notes comes in from being aged 6 years in the barrel, the flavors turn over into a rye flavor profile full of rich rye spices, black pepper, and oaky tannic spice that leaves your mouth watering and reaching for another sip.

The 6 Year age on this one feels very well chosen for me because it has just enough of the barrel char, caramel, and vanilla to create a nice sweet balance to the bold rye spices you get in this pour.

I’m very impressed with this whiskey and I can tell that this is a bottle I could drink very quickly.
