Is Bulleit Bourbon – 10 Year an Approachable Whiskey?
Bulleit 10 Year packs a little bit of spice and heat with each sip.
It doesn’t really have a burn per se, but it is not a bourbon I would expect beginner whiskey drinkers to enjoy right off the bat.
Is Bulleit Bourbon – 10 Year Complex?
Bulleit Bourbon – 10 Year Whiskey does have a few layers of complexity to its flavors. It starts with just a little bit of caramel, vanilla, and oak, but then it takes a twist to the rye spices where you get a bit more heat.
I get a lot of rye spice and baking spice notes on the nose as well as some dark fruits which is quite nice. There are more herbs and spices I get on the flavor because of the 28% rye in the mash bill.
It then finishes out with a bit of peppercorn and rye spice that leaves you with a bit of heat in your mouth.
What are Bulleit Bourbon – 10 Year’s strongest attributes/flavors?
Bulleit 10 Year’s strongest attribute is its high 28% rye in the mash bill.
It has a lot of herb and spice flavors that you don’t normally get in a bourbon. This is one of the reasons that Bulleit is so popular in cocktails because its flavors really shine through when mixed with other ingredients.
Is Bulleit Bourbon – 10 Year a go-to whiskey?
Bulleit 10 Year is a little pricey to be a go-to whiskey and I think the standard Bulleit Bourbon is a better bang for your buck.
It’s particularly good in cocktails and is a better buy at the $35 price point.
Is Bulleit Bourbon – 10 Year priced accurately to its quality?
Bulleit 10 Year may be a bit overpriced for its quality.
If you’re looking to sip on a bourbon straight, there are a few better options out there at the $55 price point like New Riff Single Barrel, Old Forester 1910, and Four Rose Small Batch Select.
Conclusion for Bulleit Bourbon – 10 Year
While I do enjoy this bottle of Bulleit 10 Year, I don’t know if it’s worth the additional price over the standard Bulleit Bourbon.
If you are a fan of rye whiskey though, this bottle is an excellent blend between a quality bourbon with a nice amount of rye in the mash bill.
