Is A Midwinter Night’s Dram an Approachable Whiskey?

A Midwinter Night’s Dram is an extremely approachable whiskey.

It has such a nice sweetness to it, but also a smooth rye spice to it.

The rye grain mixed with the port and French wine finish really creates a nice dessert-like whiskey that anyone can enjoy.

This is the first bottle of A Midwinter Night’s Dram I have found and I can see why it is so popular – this is one I could easily drink down quickly.

Is A Midwinter Night’s Dram Complex?

A Midwinter Night’s Dram Act 10 Scene 5 is quite complex and has a lot of depth and flavor.

Since its mash bill is a blend of nearly all rye, you most certainly get a lot of rye grain and spice in this whiskey.

However, it’s not the hot and spicy rye you will find in many other rye whiskeys.

Somehow it is quite balanced with the dark fruit sweetness from the port and French oak finish and the caramel, vanilla, and oak from aging in the barrels.

The finish is also extremely smooth and has one of those finishes where it makes you just keep reaching for the glass for another sip.

What are A Midwinter Night’s Dram’s strongest attributes/flavors?

A Midwinter Night’s Dram focuses on delicately balancing the rye spice and grassy flavors with the rich dark fruit and nutty notes of a port wine and French wine barrels to create a delicious whiskey experience.

Is A Midwinter Night’s Dram a go-to whiskey?

A Midwinter Night’s Dram is hard to get in my area so this is one I will be saving for special occasions.

But if I could get more bottles of this, it would absolutely be a go-to whiskey for me.

It is one of the easiest-to-drink whiskeys I’ve had and there is something about the delicate balance of flavors that really keeps me reaching for more.

Is A Midwinter Night’s Dram priced accurately to its quality?

A Midwinter Night’s Dram delivers on its price tag.

I’ve always heard about this whiskey and it is quite hard to find in my area so I never had the chance to try it.

Now that I have it and sipped on it for this review, I can verify that this bottle is definitely worth the hype.

Conclusion for A Midwinter Night’s Dram – Act 10 Scene 5

If you can find a bottle of A Midwinter Night’s Dram at MSRP price I would definitely buy a bottle (or three).

At the secondary cost of $300+, I’m not sure these would be worth it.

I love the flavors and appreciate the rarity, but I don’t think I could justify spending $300 per bottle unless you really want to try it for yourself and have no other way to get it.

High West Distillery also releases other bottles that are quite tasty like their High West Cask Collection – Cabernet Sauvignon Barrel Finish and even their High West Double Rye – Rum Barrel Finish are pretty good deals.

All-in-all, A Midwinter Night’s Dram is one of the best whiskeys I have tasted all year and I will certainly be on the lookout for more of these in the future.
