Is Widow Jane Applewood Rye an Approachable Whiskey?
Widow Jane Applewood Rye has a bit of rye spiciness to it, but the sweet honey and fruit notes balance it out well.
This one may be a bit hot for beginners, but I really enjoy the bold and balanced rye spice paired with the fruit and wood flavors.
Is Widow Jane Applewood Rye Complex?
Widow Jane Applewood Rye has a few layers of flavor and complexity.
It starts with sweet honey and light fruit flavors that turn rye-forward quite quickly.
I’ve had a lot of rye whiskeys that are just too much spice and don’t balance the flavors well, but this Applewood Rye does a pretty good job of pairing enough sweetness to balance out the rye spice.
What are Widow Jane Applewood Rye’s strongest attributes/flavors?
Widow Jane Applewood Rye’s strongest attribute is the balance of honey and fruit sweetness paired with rich rye-forward flavors.
Is Widow Jane Applewood Rye a go-to whiskey?
Widow Jane Applewood Rye is a whiskey that I would drink when I’m in the mood for some nice fruit notes in my whiskey.
It has a very unique flavor profile that I quite enjoy, but I don’t think I would drink this one as a daily sipper.
This is one I’d pull out on cold winter nights or if I’m sitting around the fire watching a movie.
Is Widow Jane Applewood Rye priced accurately to its quality?
Widow Jane Applewood Rye definitely delivers on its price tag.
For $50, you’re getting a delicious rye whiskey with an additional layer of flavor from the applewood finish.
I’m not sure if this one would be my favorite ryes like Peerless Rye and New Riff Single Barrel Rye, but I’ll certainly put it in contention for one of the most flavorful ryes I’ve reviewed.
Conclusion for Widow Jane Applewood Rye
Widow Jane Applewood Rye is a delicious whiskey.
I’ve wanted to taste this one for probably a year since I tasted it at a whiskey festival I attended here in Pittsburgh.
I was never able to track it down, but it showed up at the store today and I snagged the bottle up quickly and I’m glad I did.
I will likely re-visit the store and see if they have another bottle so I can have a backup of this one.
If you see it on the shelf, give it a shot!
