Is Laphroaig Select an Approachable Whisky?

Laphroaig Select is a pretty approachable whisky.

If you’re looking to get into peaty Scotch whisky, this is a great bottle to start with.

It’s one of the most affordable peated Scotch whiskies you can find and offers a nice full peaty flavor profile.

While it’s not quite as refined as the more expensive Laphroaig bottles, you can’t beat it for the price.

Is Laphroaig Select Complex?

Laphroaig Select has a few layers of flavor.

It starts with your usual Laphroaig peat and smoke.

Layered behind that is light honey and caramel sweetness, oak, and vanilla from the ex-Bourbon Barrels.

You also get a nice level of light and dark fruit flavors from the Pedro Ximenez and Oloroso Sherry finishes.

The finish is very smooth and goes down smoothly.

What are Laphroaig Select’s strongest attributes/flavors?

Laphroaig Select’s strongest attribute is its price point.

To get a solid peated Scotch whisky for under $50 isn’t easy.

Is Laphroaig Select a go-to whisky?

Laphroaig Select is a tasty whisky, but I would usually spend a little more money to get the Laphroaig 10 if I were going to drink this pour neat.

This is absolutely a great whisky to use if you have any cocktails that call for peated Scotch like the Pete’s Word cocktail (one of my favorite whisky cocktails).

Is Laphroaig Select priced accurately to its quality?

Laphroaig Select delivers on its price tag.

While I prefer other Laphroaig bottles like Laphroaig 10 Year and Laphroaig Lore, this bottle is a perfect low-price point bottle that is an excellent introduction to peated Scotch whisky.

Conclusion for Laphroaig Select

Laphroaig Select is great for the price point.

I usually upgrade and pay $20-30 dollars more for a higher-tier Laphroaig if I’m looking for a peaty Scotch to drink neat.

This bottle of Laphroaig Select I usually only use when I mix peated Scotch cocktails for friends and guests.

It offers such a nice level of peat since it’s a little more subdued than the heavier peat offering, but just enough to enhance a cocktail without being overpowering.
