Is Auchentoshan an Approachable Whisky?
Auchentoshan tastes more like a bourbon than a Scotch to me which can be a good thing.
When I first tasted this one, I was a little confused because it didn’t have the usual highland single malt flavor profile and had a lot of caramel, toasted oak, and fruit notes.
This is a good thing for beginners looking for a bourbon flavor profile.
Is Auchentoshan Complex?
Auchentoshan is not super complex, but it does have the flavors that it advertises on its label.
You can definitely find the bourbon and oloroso sherry cask finished flavors here.
What are Auchentoshan’s strongest attributes/flavors?
Auchentoshan’s strongest attribute is that the finish flavors really shine through and are quite prominent on this pour.
Is Auchentoshan a go-to whisky?
Auchentoshan isn’t a go-to whisky for me.
While it reminds me of bourbon, I would still prefer to sip on an oloroso sherry-finished bourbon.
Is Auchentoshan priced accurately to its quality?
Auchentoshan isn’t too pricey for a single-malt Scotch, but I think there are better options on the market like a bottle of Craigellachie 13 Scotch, and even though it’s a bit more expensive, Dalmore Sherry Cask which is one of the best Sherry Cask finishes out there.
Conclusion for Auchentoshan
Auchentoshan is a decent Scotch Whisky with a nice bourbon and oloroso sherry finish on it.
I just wish that the Scotch flavor would shine through a little more on this one to balance out the flavor profile.
