Is Compass Box Peat Monster an Approachable Whiskey?

Peat Monster is a very peaty whiskey, so if you’re a fan of peat, you’ll likely enjoy this one.

Is Compass Box Peat Monster Complex?

Compass Box Peat Monster delivers on its name but also has some additional layers of flavor on top of the peat.

It has a nice layer of fruitiness and sweetness that balance out the heavy peat.

It also offers a bit of pepper and spice on the tail end that adds an additional layer to the flavor profile.

What are Compass Box Peat Monster’s strongest attributes/flavors?

Peat and more Peat. It’s definitely peat-heavy and that is most certainly the flavor that is front and center in this pour.

Is Compass Box Peat Monster a go-to whiskey?

Compass Box Peat Monster is a decent go-to whiskey if you’re a fan of peaty whiskey.

Is Compass Box Peat Monster priced accurately to its quality?

Compass Box Peat Monster costs $70 which is right around the price of Laphroaig 10 Year and Ardbeg.

I think this bottle would be a bottle I’d purchase more often if it were in the $50 price range like The Big Peat which offers a similar experience of peat and fruit and sweetness.

Conclusion for Compass Box Peat Monster

Compass Box Peat Monster offers exactly what it advertises – lots of peat flavor with a bit of briny seawater saltiness and fruitiness.

It’s very earthy and is perfect to pair with a cigar or to sip on around a campfire.

I was lucky enough recently to taste another limited edition Compass Box No Name No. 3 which is pricier but offered excellent peat, spice, and fruity flavors.

Also, Compass Box Spice Tree is an excellent option.
