Knob Creek 9 Year Single Barrel Reserve Tasting Notes

Nose: Caramel, toasted oak, brown sugar, vanilla

Palate: Rich caramel, toasted oak, vanilla, a touch of rye spice

Finish: Heavy bold finish with a good bit of heat which makes sense with a 60% ABV. It leaves you with a nice caramel and oak taste in your mouth that lasts over 30 seconds and has a lingering rye spice at the tail end

Is Knob Creek 9 Year Single Barrel Reserve an Approachable Whiskey?

Knob Creek Single Barrel Reserve is a heavy hitter. With its 60% ABV, it will really give your taste buds a ride. Since it has a lot of heat on it, this isn’t a whiskey for beginners.

Is Knob Creek 9 Year Single Barrel Reserve Complex?

Knob Creek Single Barrel Reserve has your traditional bourbon flavors – rich caramel, heavy oak, vanilla, and a bit of a brown sugar note that hides a sweetness behind the heat.

While I would say it is particularly complex, it does do what it is supposed to do. Give you a single barrel proof whiskey that is a solid bourbon to its core.

What are Knob Creek 9 Year Single Barrel Reserve’s strongest attributes/flavors?

Knob Creek Single Barrel Reserve’s strongest attribute is the bold caramel and oak you get with each sip. Since it is a higher proof point, you get all the strength of flavor without being watered down at all.

Is Knob Creek 9 Year Single Barrel Reserve a go-to whiskey?

Knob Creek Single Barrel Reserve is a tasty whiskey, but when I think of Knob Creek, I think of their more refined offerings that still give the similar flavors but have a bit more smoothness to them.

Is Knob Creek 9 Year Single Barrel Reserve priced accurately to its quality?

At $68, Knob Creek Single Barrel Reserve packs the single barrel bourbon experience into the bottle, but I think it is a bit pricey compared to other options you can get on the market like New Riff Single Barrel Bourbon.

Conclusion for Knob Creek 9 Year Single Barrel Reserve

Knob Creek is always a solid choice for a bourbon drinker. I can honestly say that I have never been disappointed with a Knob Creek bottle that I have purchased.

This bottle is no different.

I do think it is priced a little higher than I would hope, I would still consider buying another bottle of this if I was looking for a reliable bourbon for a party or to take camping around a fire with friends.
