Is Dalmore Cigar Malt an Approachable Whisky?

Price aside, Dalmore Cigar Malt is a very approachable whisky.

It has a lovely nose to it with a lot of complex notes and drinks very smoothly. It does have a bit of heat on the finish so it may not be a choice for beginner whiskey drinkers.

Is Dalmore Cigar Malt Complex?

Dalmore Cigar Malt has a lot of nice flavors to it.

It starts with the standard Dalmore flavors of dark fruits, cherries, and plums but adds an extra dimension to it.

Since this is similar to the Dalmore Sherry Cask but with additional aging in Cabernet Sauvignon barrels, you get an extra level of complexity.

On top of the fruits, you get chocolate, cinnamon, nuts, and vanilla. Maybe it’s the Cabernet Sauvignon barrels that give it a bit more red fruit flavors that combine with the chocolate and remind me a lot of eating those syrupy Sarris chocolate-covered cherries if the syrup were alcohol.

It finishes out with just a tiny bit of leather, tobacco, and a pepper spice.

What are Dalmore Cigar Malts strongest attributes/flavors?

Dalmore Cigar Malt’s strongest attribute is that it layers so many delicious flavors into each sip.

Also, its nose is spectacular with so many different notes each time you revisit it.

Is Dalmore Cigar Malt a go-to whisky?

If only I could afford and find bottles of Dalmore Cigar Malt every day!

However, since this bottle is quite rare and pricey, this is a bottle I will reserve it for special occasions and share it with friends.

Is Dalmore Cigar Malt priced accurately to its quality?

Dalmore Cigar Malt is a bit pricey and I would buy it more regularly if it were available at the $130-150 price range.

At the $180 price point, it’s a bit steep.

I’m not disappointed in the quality though so I do think the quality is on par with the price, but it also makes me realize that the standard Dalmore 12-Year is very well priced at the $75 price point.

Conclusion for Dalmore Cigar Malt

Dalmore Cigar Malt is a real treat. I have not had many whiskeys that layer so many flavors into each sip.

This bottle offers a complexity that you won’t find in many other Scotches and really emphasizes what Dalmore specializes in.

Overall, I would only recommend buying this bottle if you’re looking for a real treat and are willing to drop the nearly $200 price tag.

Otherwise, buy yourself a bottle of the Dalmore Sherry Cask for $90 and call it a day. It’s almost as good and costs half the price.
