Willett Pot Still Reserve Tasting Notes

Nose: Honey, butterscotch, wheat, grains, earthy, light fruits, apples, pears, anise

Palate: Nice caramel, vanilla, and grain, toasted oak, slight pepper, spices, earthy, hay and grassy notes

Finish: Medium finish with a bite – leaves you with a lingering pepper and spice finish

Is Willett Pot Still an Approachable Whiskey?

At first, Willet Pot Still seems like an easy-to-drink whiskey because your first sensation is the sweet caramel and oak flavors. But as you continue to sip on this one, you start to notice the bite more and more.

While it is still easy to drink, it wouldn’t be my typical go-to bourbon. This bottle is one I would serve more to fans of spicy rye whiskeys.

Is Willett Pot Still Complex?

Willett Pot Still isn’t particularly complex. While you do get the core bourbon flavors of caramel and oak, it also has the characteristics of a spicy rye whiskey. I’d lean toward this whiskey having quite a bit of rye in the mash bill.

With that being said, if you’re a fan of rye whiskey, you might want to give this one a shot.

What are Willett Pot Still’s strongest attributes/flavors?

The strongest attribute of Willet Pot Still is that it combines the sweeter corn and caramel flavors of bourbon with a bit of spice and rye.

Is Willett Pot Still a go-to whisky?

At the $60 price point, I wouldn’t consider Willet Pot Still a go-to whiskey. There are plenty of more affordable bottles at lower price points that stand up to this one.

Is Willett Pot Still priced accurately to its quality?

Willet Pot Still is priced a bit high for what it delivers. Yes, the bottle is nice and pretty and looks nice on a shelf, but the quality of the whiskey can be match by cheaper bottles.

Conclusion for Willett Pot Still Reserve

Willett Pot Still Reserve is one of those bottles that everyone always sees on the shelves and since the bottle looks so cool, you just have to buy one.

While I’m not disappointed that I bought the bottle, I do think it should be slightly cheaper. Maybe in the $40-45 price range.

I will say though that almost everyone who visits my place asks “Oh, what’s this whiskey?” and points to the Willet Pot Still bottle and wants to try it. That in itself can be a perk of having a bottle of this on your shelf.
