Woodford Reserve Double Oaked Tasting Notes

Appearance: Very Dark Amber

Nose: Heavy caramel, bold charred oak, sweet buttery brown sugar, leather, vanilla, chocolate

Palate: Sweet toffee right away followed by toasted oak – reminds me of my grandmother’s toffee candies and cinnamon toast with brown sugar and cinnamon – dark fruits, baking spices, and a bit of citrus

Finish: Long finish of caramel and oak then turning to brown sugar cinnamon and spice with a lingering hint of citrus on the tail end

Is Woodford Reserve Double Oaked an Approachable Whiskey?

Woodford Reserve Double Oaked is an extremely approachable whiskey. It smells delicious and offers many of the quintessential flavors that bourbon is known for. If someone doesn’t like Woodford Reserve Double Oaked, they’re likely just not going to be a bourbon drinker.

Is Woodford Reserve Double Oaked Complex?

Woodford Reserve Double Oaked offers a lot of complexity all in one direction. Its purpose is to provide a doubled oaked experience and that is exactly what it delivers. So while the core of Woodford Reserve Double Oaked is the rich caramel and oak flavors, there are plenty of layers to explore as you continue to sip.

Is Woodford Reserve Double Oaked a go-to whiskey?

While Woodford Reserve Double Oaked fetches a $65 price tag, it is easily a go-to whiskey if you can afford it. It’s a whiskey that will fit any situation and drinks extremely easily.

Is Woodford Reserve Double Oaked priced accurately to its quality?

I think Woodford Reserve Double Oaked is priced accurately to its quality. While the $65 price tag is a bit much for a bourbon, the $25 additional price is warranted by the additional flavor you get over the standard Woodford Reserve.

Are there other bourbons that are just as good at the $45-50 price point? Of course. But not many can do the doubled oak flavor that you get with the Woodford Reserve Double Oaked.

Conclusion for Woodford Reserve Double Oaked

Woodford Reserve Double Oaked is a must-have on your bar if you want to give your guests an excellent first bourbon experience. It’s a bourbon with all the traditional bourbon flavors exaggerated so a new whiskey drinker just can’t miss the flavors we all know and love in our bourbon.

If you don’t have a bottle of this already, I highly suggest picking one up.
