This Bottle Was A Local Barrel Pick
I am a member of a local whiskey group and this was their barrel pick.
They visited the Wilderness Trail Distillery and hand selected the barrel and this was their favorite.
I’m grateful to have this bottle and for all the help tracking down whiskey in my area.
It is quite difficult to find when whiskey drops are happening in the city, especially with all the limited whiskeys being bought up within the first 30 minutes of stores opening.
It’s great to have a group of fellow whiskey drinkers who help each other out and enjoy celebrating whiskey together.
So with that being said, let’s get into the review.
Is Wilderness Trail Single Barrel Bourbon an Approachable Whiskey?
Wilderness Trail Single Barrel Bourbon has an extremely nice nose to it.
Despite its 56.185% ABV, it is quite easy to drink and has a lot of nice flavors so I think it is a whiskey that anyone can enjoy.
Is Wilderness Trail Single Barrel Bourbon Complex?
Wilderness Trail Single Barrel Bourbon’s nose is full of all your traditional bourbon flavors with additional layers of dark fruits, powdered sugar, and cinnamon notes that reminded me of a powdered cherry filled donut.
On the palate, I couldn’t find as many of the fruit flavors and instead got a bit more oaky spice, black pepper, and charred oak.
The finish is smooth and full of flavor.
I expected it to be a little hotter with its 112 proof point, but it drinks quite smoothly.
What are Wilderness Trail Single Barrel Bourbon’s strongest attributes/flavors?
Wilderness Trail Single Barrel Bourbon’s strongest attribute is its nose.
I really enjoyed all of the rich fruit flavors paired with nice powdered sugar notes.
Is Wilderness Trail Single Barrel Bourbon a go-to whiskey?
This bottle of Wilderness Trail Single Barrel Bourbon would absolutely be a go-to whiskey for me.
It’s very easy to drink and I enjoy the flavors I’m tasting in this one.
While I don’t get quite as much of the fruit and powdered sugar notes on the palate, I do still really enjoy all of the flavors I am tasting in this one.
It’s quite rich and drinks quite smoothly for its proof-point.
Is Wilderness Trail Single Barrel Bourbon priced accurately to its quality?
Wilderness Trail Single Barrel Bourbon delivers on its price point.
I feel like the flavors in this bottle are rich and bold and I would probably purchase another bottle of this at the $70 price tag.
Conclusion for Wilderness Trail Single Barrel Bourbon
This bottle of Wilderness Trail Single Barrel Bourbon is quite delicious.
I’m happy with all of the flavors and I really love the nose on this one.
I’ll be curious to see what a non-barrel pick bottle of this will taste like.
This is my first experience with Wilderness Trail Distillery since they are not readily available here in Pennsylvania liquor stores.
I’d like to try more of their offerings, so I will keep an eye out for them when I’m traveling and review them if I can find them.
