The Vieux Carré is a slightly bitter rye whiskey cocktail. Simple, easy to make, and somewhat off the beaten path. Give it a shot. I do not think that you will regret it.

Equipment

  • Mixing Glass or Tin
  • Jigger
  • Barspoon
  • Strainer
  • Small Rocks Glass
  • Ice

Ingredients
  

  • 0.5 Oz Rye Whiskey
  • 0.5 Oz Cognac
  • 0.5 Oz Sweet Vermouth
  • 0.5 teaspoon Bénédictine
  • 1 Dash Peychaud's Bitters
  • 1 Dash Angostura Bitters
  • 1 Luxardo Cherry Garnish

Instructions
 

  • Add 1 large ice cube to a small rocks glass.
  • Into a tin filled with ice, add the Rye, Cognac, Sweet Vermouth, Bénédictine, Peychaud's and Angostura.
  • Stir until the proper dilution is reached and the contents are chilled.
  • Strain tin into rocks glass.
  • Garnish with a Luxardo Cherry

Feel free to adjust the ingredients a bit to better suit your tastes.
