Nose: Dark fruits, cherry, plum, chocolate-covered raisins, vanilla, clove
Palate: Rich dark fruit flavors, chocolate-covered cherries, vanilla, charred oak wood, slight pepper and spice on the tail end
Finish: Medium finish with a light buttery and oily mouthfeel that is full of dark fruit, wood, and pepper with a bit of lingering spice
Is Templeton Rye – Oloroso Sherry Finish an Approachable Whiskey?
Templeton Rye finished in Oloroso Sherry Casks is very easy to drink. It has an excellent balance of flavors but also goes down quite smoothly.
Since it is non-chill filtered, you will get a bit of heat as the oily and buttery mouthfeel coats your mouth, but it’s an excellent drinking experience for both whiskey beginners and experienced whiskey drinkers.
Is Templeton Rye – Oloroso Sherry Cask Finish Complex?
This bottle of Templeton Rye finished in Oloroso Sherry Casks has a nice level of complexity to it.
The first flavor you get is the dark fruits from the sherry cask. It is such a lovely first sip and as it unfolds in your mouth, you start to get a bit of vanilla and oak wood flavors that then morph into the rye flavors of pepper and spice.

The dark fruit notes of Templeton Rye finished in Oloroso Sherry Casks are the strongest attribute of this bottle. It is clear that the 9 months in the Sherry Casks was worth it and this bottle certainly displays the excellent flavors of both the rye whiskey and the sherry cask finish.
Is Templeton Rye Finished in Oloroso Sherry Casks a go-to whiskey?
At the $55 price point, I’m not sure if I would call this bottle of Templeton finished in Sherry Casks a go-to bottle. This is one I would pull out for a nice dinner party where the sherry finish would go well with a nice steak dinner or a meal where you have both wine and whiskey.
Is Templeton Rye Finished in Oloroso Sherry Casks priced accurately to its quality?
Even at the $55 price point, I do think that Templeton Rye finished in Oloroso Sherry Casks is worth its price tag.
I will admit, I am almost always a fan of sherry finishes, this bottle truly does do an excellent job of blending the sweet sherry flavors with the light notes of pepper and rye spices.

If you find this bottle, I would absolutely pick it up.
The bottle does say that it is a “Limited Release” so I am not exactly sure how many bottles they make each year.
