Is Templeton Rye Barrel Strength an Approachable Whiskey?
Templeton Rye Barrel Strength packs quite a punch.
It is full of rich pepper and spice flavors that remind me of grilling out on a hot summer day and cooked some charred burgers and smoked beef jerky.
It has a bit of heat to it being barrel strength at nearly 115 proof, so this may not be a whiskey for beginners.
Is Templeton Rye Barrel Strength Complex?
Templeton Rye Barrel Strength has quite a few layers of complexity.
It starts with your rich caramel, oak, and vanilla on the nose paired with pepper and spice.
On the palate, the pepper and spice dominate the caramel and vanilla, but the charred oak still shines through.
You also get hints of citrus and additional rye spice on the tail end.
What are Templeton Rye Barrel Strength’s strongest attributes/flavors?
Templeton Rye Barrel Strength’s strongest attribute is the amount of pepper and rye spice you get on each sip.
It is a very full rye spice flavor profile that combines well with the strong barrel flavors and creates a very rich flavor profile backed up by a nice full finish.
Is Templeton Rye Barrel Strength a go-to whiskey?
At the $60, this is a pretty good deal for a barrel strength rye whiskey.
However, since it is a 2023 limited release bottle, this wouldn’t be a go-to whiskey for me.
I’ll probably save this one for special occasions when I want to have a nice barrel strength pour or to make myself a quality old-fashioned cocktail since Templeton Rye is my favorite rye whiskey to use in my Becherovka Old Fashioned.
Is Templeton Rye Barrel Strength priced accurately to its quality?
I do think Templeton Rye Barrel Strength is priced accurately to its quality.
It has a very unique rye spice and pepper flavor profile that I really enjoy.
Conclusion for Templeton Rye Barrel Strength
Generally, Templeton Rye whiskey is one of my favorite whiskeys to use in my old-fashioned cocktails.
I’m not sure if I would use this Barrel Strength edition in a cocktail, but it is certainly a quality pour and a nice step up from the standard Templeton Rye whiskey.
