Is Russell’s Reserve Single Barrel an Approachable Whiskey?

Russell’s Reserve Single Barrel isn’t a whiskey for beginners. It packs quite a punch with its 110 proof. It has all the flavors you’d want in a bourbon and is an excellent pour for an experienced whiskey drinker.

Is Russell’s Reserve Single Barrel Complex?

Russell’s Reserve Single Barrel has a lot of complexity. Not only does it have heavy caramel and oak notes from their deepest No. 4 alligator char barrels, but it is non-chill filtered.

Chill-filtering is a process where the fats and oils are removed from the whiskey to help remove imperfections and increase clarity in the bottle. Since Russell’s Reserve Single Barrel is non-chill filtered, we get all the nice fats and oils which results in an excellent mouthfeel and a long buttery finish.

On top of that, we get cinnamon and spices on the finish with a bit of clove, licorice, and vanilla.

Is Russell’s Reserve Single Barrel a go-to whiskey?

Russell’s Reserve Single Barrel is a bit hard to find on the shelves, so I’d say this bottle is more of a special pour. If I were looking for a regular everyday sipper with similar flavors, the Russell’s Reserve 10 Year is a step down in quality, but also only $35.

Is Russell’s Reserve Single Barrel priced accurately to its quality?

Russell’s Reserve Single Barrel is one of the better bottles of bourbon you can get at a $65 price point. It has big bold flavors and since it’s non-chill filtered with a proof of 110, it really packs a bang for your buck.

Conclusion for Russell’s Reserve Single Barrel

If you see this one on the shelf, definitely pick it up. It’s one of the best deals you will find.
