Remy Martin XO Cognac is not a whiskey!
Yes, yes….I know. I am aware that Cognac is not a whiskey!
But a friend of mine allowed me to taste this Cognac and it is a rare treat that is worthy of a review.
I’m not as well versed in Cognac as I am in Whiskey, but this bottle certainly makes me want to be and I may be picking up a few more bottles of Cognac to sample in the future.
Remy Martin XO Cognac Tasting Notes
Appearance: Dark Cherry Amber
Nose: Lovely fruits, champagne sugary sweetness, lots of floral notes, peach-o’s candy, apricot, grape, plum, dark cherry, notes of oak, and very faint spices
Palate: Peach Rings candy, tons of fruit, peach, apricot, dark cherry, plum, hints of orange zest, sweet white wine/champagne sweetness, plum wine sugar notes, grape skins, light notes of oak and bits of tannic spice, slight notes of gingersnap cookie and clove
Finish: Long and rich finish that is extremely smooth with very little heat and a surprisingly nice mouthfeel for only being 80 proof – leaves you with rich fruit flavors that remind me of Peach Ring candies but with a whole ton more layers of flavor
Is Remy Martin XO Cognac an Approachable Pour?
Remy Martin XO Cognac is an extremely approachable pour.
It is full of rich fruit flavors that range all the way from peach, apricot, and citrus notes to dark cherry, plum, and grape.
Not only does it have these strong fruit flavors, but it reminds me of one of my favorite candies – Peach Ring candies coated in granulated sugar.
This is a pour everyone will enjoy, but it’ll cost you $250 per bottle to try it.
Is Remy Martin XO Cognac Complex?
Remy Martin XO Cognac is much more complex than I expected.
You get a whole variety of fruit flavors that really wake up all the taste buds in your mouth and fill them with rich, fruity, candy, and sugar flavors.
After the sugar and fruit notes pass, you also get a lot of deeper layers of flavor like oak, light spices, floral notes, and even gingerbread and cloves.
The finish is much more fulfilling than you would expect from an 80-proof liquor and the flavors last long after you finish the sip.
What are Remy Martin XO Cognac’s strongest attributes/flavors?
Remy Martin XO Cognac’s strongest attribute is the intense amount of fruit flavors you get on each sip.
If you’re a fan of fruit candies, champagne wine sweetness, plum wine, or basically any sugar and fruit flavor blast, you will absolutely love this bottle.
Is Remy Martin XO Cognac a go-to pour?
If Remy Martin XO Cognac didn’t cost $250, I would drink this Cognac all the time.
I’m not very familiar with Remy Martin Cognac overall, but I will certainly be picking up a bottle of it sometime in the near future.
I’m very curious to see whether the cheaper bottles offer even remotely the same flavor experience.
Is Remy Martin XO Cognac priced accurately to its quality?
Remy Martin XO Cognac is a bottle that is meant to be fancy and it delivers on what it advertises.
If you’re looking for a decadent bottle of liquor that will tickle every last taste bud, this is the bottle for you.
Is it worth the $250?
I’m surprised to say it, but I think it is.
There aren’t many bottles that warrant that high a price tag for me, but this is a delicious pour that has delicious unique flavors.
And as a bonus, the bottle is beautiful and will certainly stand out from other bottles behind your bar.
Conclusion for Remy Martin XO Cognac
Remy Martin XO Cognac was a nice gift from my friend and I’m grateful he allowed me to taste and review this bottle.
To sum up my thoughts on this Remy Martin XO Cognac, it is a bottle that reminds me of all my favorite fruit candies, and sweet champagnes, and still has enough oak and spice to tie all the flavors together into an extremely smooth and delicious pour.
If you’ve got the cash to purchase a bottle of Remy Martin XO Cognac, you’re in for a treat.
Or at least get a pour of it at your local bar to try it out.
