Is Penelope Barrel Strength an Approachable Whiskey?

Penelope Barrel Strength is a whiskey I’d save for experienced bourbon fans. A beginner would likely blow out their taste buds with this one.

Is Penelope Barrel Strength Complex?

Penelope Barrel Strength has some really nice layers of flavor. It starts with strong, bold caramel, oak, and maple flavors. It reminds me a bit of the maple syrup candies my parents would occasionally get me as a kid.

I also noticed a light note of cinnamon which I enjoyed. The finish definitely hits with a bit of heat, but it leaves a nice buttery mouthfeel with rye spices and a bit of cinnamon at the end.

What are Penelope Barrel Strength’s strongest attributes/flavors?

Penelope Barrel Strength’s strongest attribute is the bold caramel and oak flavors it offers with its Barrel Strength label. On top of that, you also get the rye spice and wheat flavor profile that comes through.

Is Penelope Barrel Strength a go-to whiskey?

I could see Penelope Barrel Strength being a go-to whiskey if you could afford the $60 price tag every time you buy it. It has some characteristics I could see myself enjoying on a regular basis.

Is Penelope Barrel Strength priced accurately to its quality?

I think Penelope Barrel Strength is priced just a bit above what it offers. If this were a $45-50 bottle, it’d be an excellent deal.

Conclusion for Penelope Barrel Strength

I really enjoyed Penelope Barrel Strength. It had a nice balance of bold flavors and barrel-strength heat. This is a bottle I could see myself drinking fairly quickly.

If you’re interested in reading about my favorite of the Penelope lineup, I would absolutely recommend reading my Penelope Toasted Series Review and buying yourself a bottle. It’s by far my favorite of the Penelope offerings.
