Is Old Forester Statesman an Approachable Whiskey?
Old Forester Statesman has a lot more heat than all of the Old Forester whiskey I’ve had in the past. Right off the bat, you get spicy pepper notes and a lot of heat even though its ABV is no higher than any other Old Forester bottles.
Is Old Forester Statesman Complex?
Old Forester Statesman is not very complex. It’s actually the opposite and doesn’t have a ton to offer. I was expecting a bit more flavor complexity since I am a big fan of Old Forester in general, but this bottle just leaves me wanting to grab my Old Forester 1910 or 1920 (which are the same price).
What are Old Forester Statesman’s strongest attributes/flavors?
Old Forester Statesman’s strongest flavor is bold pepper and spice. But for a bourbon of 95 proof, I would expect this pour to be a bit sweeter than it is. It almost reminds me of a Rye more than Bourbon.
Is Old Forester Statesman a go-to whisky?
If I were to choose an Old Forester product to be my go-to whiskey, I would definitely choose Old Forester 1910 over this bottle. I’d even consider the Old Forester 100 proof and it’s a much cheaper bottle.
Is Old Forester Statesman priced accurately to its quality?
Old Forester Statesman is overpriced in my opinion. For a similar price, you can get Old Forester 1910 or 1920, both of which I prefer to this bottle. If I were blind-tasting this bottle, I would have expected it to be a $20-25 bottle.
Conclusion for Old Forester Statesman
When I think of Old Forester, I think of smooth rich caramel, oak, vanilla, and fruit flavors. It’s one of the brands I almost always enjoy. The lower tier bottles are perfect for both sipping and making old fashioned’s and the higher tier bottles are beautiful pours to just sip on neat.
This bottle, however, is easily my least favorite from Old Forester. And to be honest, I had heard that from a few people and decided to buy it and give it a try for myself. I’m glad I did because now I know that everyone was right and I am able to bring the same opinion to all of you here.
If you’re looking for a bottle of Old Forester Bourbon, I highly recommend going with Old Forester 1910 or Old Forester 1920.
