Is Old Forester Rye an Approachable Whiskey?
Old Forester Straight Rye has a bit of heat on it with its 100 Proof. Whiskey beginners may be a bit overwhelmed with this one.
Is Old Forester Rye Complex?
Old Forester Rye isn’t particularly complex. It has rye spice, pepper, and citrus notes that you would expect from a standard rye whiskey, but with the relatively high malted barley in the mash bill, you get a bit more of the malt and grain flavors than you would expect.
Is Old Forester Rye a go-to whiskey?
Old Forester Rye wouldn’t be a go-to whiskey for me. While I can appreciate the layers of flavors, it doesn’t have anything that really stands out to me and I think there are smoother rye whiskeys out there.
Is Old Forester Rye priced accurately to its quality?
Old Forester 100 Proof Straight Rye cost $30 in my local liquor store. At that price, it is a great buy.
Even though it isn’t a whiskey I’d be sipping neat, it is an excellent rye whiskey to use in cocktails like the old-fashioned, boulevardier, and any other rye whiskey cocktail.
Conclusion for Old Forester Rye
I prefer the Old Forester bourbons to this rye whiskey, but all-in-all it is a very solid rye whiskey for $30.
It has a well-rounded flavor profile that packs a nice punch at 100 Proof and is an excellent options for all your rye whiskey cocktails.
