I picked this bottle up while I was on my trip on the Kentucky Bourbon Trail when we visited Prohibition Craft Spirits in Louisville.
We took a tour of the place where they took us through the history of making moonshine, and whiskey, their barrel warehouse, and stills. It was a great tour to see how things have changed over the past 100 years in the area. It was an excellent tour and our tour guide was very knowledgeable and friendly.
After the tour, we were able to taste a few Nulu whiskeys as well as the Nulu Gin and Vodka (which were both also very good).
I enjoyed the tasting enough that I decided to go with the Single Barrel Select which was chosen by Podcask Oak & Thieves which is the bottle I will be reviewing today.

Nulu Single Barrel Bourbon Tasting Notes
Nose: Sweet butterscotch, toasted oak, vanilla, slight dark fruits, and citrus with a bit of cinnamon and clove
Palate: Rich deep caramel flavors, toasted oak, vanilla, orange citrus zest, rye spice, pepper
Finish: Bold heavy finish that lingers for a long time – leaves you with an oily and buttery mouthfeel full of rich caramel, oak, and fruit that finishes up with a nice rye and pepper spice.
Nulu Single Barrel Bourbon an Approachable Whiskey?
Nulu Single Barrel Bourbon has a bit of heat on it with its 57.1% ABV so it is not a whiskey for beginners.
Experienced whiskey drinkers will likely love the bold flavors and long buttery finish.
Is Nulu Single Barrel Bourbon Complex?
Nulu Single Barrel Bourbon has a lot of flavor complexity. It starts with an extremely rich and bold caramel blast of flavor with a bit of a cinnamon spice note that blends very well with a layer of fruit flavors.
It’s also got a nice bit of oak from being aged over 4 years and finishes out with a final layer of rye spice and pepper on the finish.

Nulu Single Barrel Bourbon’s strongest attribute is the blast of rich caramel you get right from the first tip. This is a big and bold whiskey that is packed full of flavor.
Is Nulu Single Barrel Bourbon a go-to whiskey?
This particular bottle of Nulu Single Barrel Bourbon would be very hard for me to find where I live in Pennsylvania so I reserve it for special occasions. It reminds me of the trip I took with my friends every time I drink it.
If I could find it more regularly, it would be one I would pick up every so often since it does have an $85 price tag.
Is Nulu Single Barrel Bourbon priced accurately to its quality?
Nulu Single Barrel Bourbon costs approximately $85 and even at that price point, I still think it is worth the price tag.
It is rare to have a whiskey that packs so much flavor and I love that it is non-chill filtered which leaves you with an excellent finish and buttery mouthfeel.
Conclusion for Nulu Single Barrel Bourbon
I would buy another bottle of this Nulu Single Barrel Bourbon if I could.
Maybe next time I am in Kentucky or something that carries this I will be able to grab another.
I would definitely recommend getting the single barrel select if you have the choice between the single barrel and the normal straight bourbon. It is worth the extra money.
