What is the Macallan - A Night on Earth series?

The Macallan distillery was founded in 1824 when Alexander Reid obtained a license for the distillery in the Speyside region of Scotland.

Macallan’s “A Night on Earth” series is designed to celebrate their 200th anniversary by releasing this limited edition annual gift collection where the packaging, presentation, and storytelling are designed to emphasize their rich heritage and celebration.

This particular bottle is in collaboration with María Melero – a Spanish artist and illustrator from Jerez de la Frontera, Andalusia.

Her work focuses on her local heritage and how it connects with the connection between Jerez and The Macallan whisky.

They have an excellent video where María explains how she designed the bottle packaging and the role Jerez plays in this limited release bottle.

You can watch it here on the Macallan website.

Her work is not only beautiful, but each element of the packaging has special meaning tying Jerez to The Macallan Scotch Whisky.

I definitely recommend watching it because this beautiful design is most certainly what caught my eye as I was shopping in my local liquor store here in my home state of Pennsylvania.

I’ve seen many special edition whiskies in my time reviewing and this is one of the most distinct and special packaging that I have ever seen, so Macallan deserves a lot of credit for putting such attention to detail into this bottle.

Macallan - A Night on Earth in Jerez Review - Secret Whiskey Society - Bottle Packaging and Presentation

When I first purchased this bottle at the store, I had no idea what the designs and patterns were, but after learning more about María Melero, the history of Jerez and it’s connection to Macallan, I’m even more impressed with the detail that went into this packaging.

In addition to that, it’s a limited release bottle priced at $125 which I feel is a very affordable price for a special bottle of Scotch from Macallan.

They kept the price reasonable and made sure this is a bottle that was meant to be opened, enjoyed, and shared with friends and family in celebration.

So with that, let’s get into the review.

Is Macallan - A Night on Earth in Jerez an Approachable Whisky?

Macallan A Night on Earth in Jerez is extremely approachable.

It’s is easy to drink, jam-packed full of flavor and is a Scotch whisky that everyone will enjoy.

This is a bottle that does exactly what it is advertised to do which is to share with friends and family to celebrate and appreciate spending times with loved ones.

Is Macallan - A Night on Earth in Jerez Complex?

Macallan A Night on Earth in Jerez is surprisingly complex and has a lot of depth of flavor.

When I saw a Macallan bottle at the $125 price range, I didn’t expect it to be much of a step up from the standard Macallan 12, but I was pleasantly surprised.

This bottle has so much fruit on the nose that it is hard for me to even pick out exactly which fruits I am getting.

It also has an excellent oaky tannic spice on it that is quite enjoyable.

The finish is also quite rich which is a bit more uncommon in 43% ABV Scotch whisky.

They don’t advertise this bottle as being non-chill filtered, but it definitely strikes me as having a more oily and dense mouthfeel that sticks around on your palate for quite a while.

What are Macallan - A Night on Earth in Jerez’s strongest attributes/flavors?

This bottle of Macallan – A Night on Earth in Jerez’s strongest attribute is its tribute to local heritage of Jerez and María Melero’s stunning artwork on the packaging.

But in addition to that, I also have to acknowledge that Macallan released this bottle at an affordable price and delivered an excellent whisky.

It is rare for distilleries to create special releases at a price that is meant to be purchased by everyone and this is a bottle that does exactly that.

I feel like they priced it to sell so it would find its way into more people’s hands to serve the purpose it was designed for – to be shared and celebrated – while also spreading the brand of Macallan through brilliant marketing.

Is Macallan - A Night on Earth in Jerez a go-to whisky?

This bottle would actually be a go-to bottle for me (and that’s not easy to do).

If I could find this bottle on the shelf all the time, it is definitely a bottle I would purchase regularly.

However, since it is a limited release bottle that was only released for the 2024 holiday season, I am just glad that I got myself this bottle and if I see another… I will certainly purchase it.

Is Macallan - A Night on Earth in Jerez priced accurately to its quality?

As mentioned earlier, this Macallan A Night on Earth in Jerez absolutely delivers on its price tag.

While it is $125 so it’s a bit more expensive than some of the other Scotch brands on the shelf, when it comes to Macallan – it is quite reasonably priced.

I think they nailed the price point and made sure it landed at just the right price where I can feel comfortable recommending that everyone purchase this bottle if they see it on the shelf.

Not only do you get a quality Scotch whisky that is worthy of the price point, but you also get one of the most beautifully designed packaging that is perfect as a display piece on your whisky shelf or to give as an excellent gift.

Conclusion for Macallan - A Night on Earth in Jerez

As you can probably tell from this review, I am extremely impressed with this bottle of Scotch.

It caught my attention immediately when I saw it on the shelf and it did not disappoint when I got it home to taste and enjoy.

You can’t fully tell from the featured image in this review, but my bottle is already half empty and everyone I have shared it with has really enjoyed it.

This bottle originally released during the holiday season in 2024, but since I live in Pennsylvania, bottles make it here a lot later than many other states so I only found it a few months ago.

If you see this one on the shelf, do yourself a favor and pick yourself up a bottle (or two).
