Is Little Book Chapter 7 an Approachable Whiskey?
Little Book Chapter 7 is a big and bold whiskey that packs a ton of flavor into each sip.
It may be a bit much for beginners to whiskey, but this is a pour that every experienced whiskey drinker will truly enjoy.
Even with the higher ABV of 59.05%, it still drinks quite smoothly and the amount of flavor heavily outweighs any heat this one has on it.
Is Little Book Chapter 7 Complex?
Little Book Chapter 7 is very complex and offers a ton of flavor and depth.
The nose is full of rich caramel, sweet vanilla, and lots of oak which is exactly what I would expect from this blend of whiskeys, especially with the 17 and 18 year bourbons thrown into the mix.
In addition to your classic bourbon flavors, you will also notice a nice amount of spice to this pour from the Kentucky Straight Rye Whiskeys in the blend which balance well with the sweeter caramel and oak flavors.
You also get a layer of fruit notes that remind me of a crisp caramel apple, hints of citrus like orange zest, and a bit of cinnamon spice on apples.
But my favorite part of this pour is probably the finish. It is extremely rich and full and leaves your mouth coated in an oily and buttery mouthfeel that sticks around for a very long time.
It’s not hot, it just leaves a very pleasant spice and fruit flavor on the palate.
Is Little Book Chapter 7 a go-to whiskey?
Little Book Chapter 7 would be a whiskey I would drink regularly if it were just a bit cheaper and not a limited-release bottle.
Little Book releases once per year and while not impossible to find, it does tend to sell out relatively quickly in my area.
I am always sure to buy two bottles when I find it so I can crack one open to enjoy and review, then a second bottle to hold on to as a backup when I finish the first.
Is Little Book Chapter 7 priced accurately to its quality?
Little Book Chapter 7 is a bottle that I buy every year since I first found it.
I was lucky enough to meet and have a tasting with Fred and Freddie Noe when I was in Kentucky with my dad and it was a remarkable experience.
I found it quite interesting all the thought and effort Freddie puts into this project and I am always excited to support and compare each years release.
The price increased this year from $125 to $150 and I think the $25 price increase was worth it.
The 2023 Chapter 7 is spectacular and while I enjoyed the 2022 Little Book Chapter 6, this Chapter 7 just hits my palate perfectly and is exactly what I want from a $150 bottle of whiskey.
Conclusion for Little Book Chapter 7
Little Book is a great project from Freddie Noe and it is great to see him experimenting with a lot of different ideas when creating each Chapter of this series.
Last year’s batch consisted of only 4 and 5 year whiskeys whereas this year included 9, 10, 17, and 18 year whiskeys and it definitely shows in the flavor profile and especially on the finish.
This bottle is a real winner and if you’re looking for a top-tier whiskey full of rich caramel, lovely oak, and a nice blend of spice and sweet fruit, this is a bottle I recommend picking up.
About Little Book and Its Creator – Freddie Noe
My dad and I recently took a trip to explore the Kentucky Bourbon Trail in May 2023.
I was celebrating my birthday and my Dad was interested in learning more about whiskey so we set out on our trip.
One of our favorite distillery tours and tastings was at the Jim Beam Distillery and I lucked out and signed us up for a personal tasting for a new product with Fred and Freddie Noe – the creators of Bookers and Little Book whiskey.
We got to participate in a private tasting with Fred and Freddie and be some of the first people to taste their new product release – an American Single Malt called Clermont Steep.
In addition to the new product, we also got to try a few other samples including Little Book Chapter 6.
Luckily, I had purchased a bottle of Little Book months before this tasting, so I was already prepared and knew how good the whiskey was.
I brought my bottle with me to have its creator – Freddie Noe – sign for me.
I knew the tasting would be great, but what I didn’t expect was how down-to-earth and honest Fred and Freddie were about the strategy and thought processes they put into each batch of their whiskeys.
I’ll never forget my experience tasting this whiskey with the person who created it.
I even got a pour of Little Book at the Jim Beam Pizza shop where they use the same yeast strain in their pizza as they use in their whiskey.
Regardless of the experience I had tasting with Fred and Freddie Noe, this bottle of Little Book Chapter 7 is an exceptional bottle of whiskey and I hope you get a chance to try it for yourself.
