Is Liberty Pole Single Barrel Wheated Bourbon an Approachable Whiskey?

This bottle of Liberty Pole Single Barrel Wheated Bourbon is surprisingly smooth for being 114.5 Proof.

It is full of sweet caramel, vanilla, and sugared wheat flavors but also has a nice level of oak and spice notes.

I don’t often recommend single-barrel bourbons to both beginners and experienced whiskey drinkers, but this is one I think both will truly enjoy.

Is Liberty Pole Single Barrel Wheated Bourbon Whiskey Complex?

This Liberty Pole Single Barrel is quite complex.

The nose is full of flavors that contain your typical bourbon notes but lean a bit more in the wheat and malt direction which is quite nice.

On the palate, you get caramel, toasted oak, and vanilla notes but on top of that, you’ll find graham cracker wheat flour flavors mixed with candied fruits and brown sugar.

And finally, one of the best things about this bottle, it’s finish.

Right when this whiskey hits your mouth you will start to feel the oily and buttery mouthfeel that you won’t get in Liberty Pole’s standard bottle of wheated bourbon.

The finish just lingers on your palate and leaves you with such a nice array of flavors that range from sweet caramel and fruit notes to wheated grain notes all the way to spice and light pepper notes.

It’s truly a complex whiskey for not even being aged for 4 years.

What are Liberty Pole Single Barrel Wheated Bourbon’s strongest attributes/flavors?

This bottle of Liberty Pole Single Barrel Wheated Bourbon’s strongest attribute is its finish.

While its depth of flavor is nice, the finish is where a single barrel shines for me.

And this single barrel doesn’t disappoint.

Is Liberty Pole Single Barrel Wheated Bourbon a go-to whiskey?

Liberty Pole has just started releasing single barrels and they sell quite quickly.

This barrel had 134 bottles total and they sold out in about an hour of release.

I wish I could drink this bottle as a go-to whiskey, but I will reserve this one for special occasions or when I have friends over who don’t know what a wheated bourbon is.

Is Liberty Pole Single Barrel Wheated Bourbon priced accurately to its quality?

This bottle of Liberty Pole Wheated Bourbon cost me $60 and it absolutely delivers on its price tag.

While this specific bottle “A Barrel Named Daryl” is limited, I would expect many of Liberty Pole’s Single Barrel Wheated Bourbons to offer the same quality.

Conclusion for Liberty Pole Single Barrel Wheated Bourbon

Liberty Pole is a relatively new whiskey distillery located near my hometown of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

They are making sure to keep their prices reasonable and deliver high-quality whiskey while they continue to grow their customer base.

I think it is a great strategy for an up-and-coming whiskey distillery and I believe it will help them thrive in the future.

I’m looking forward to seeing what single-barrel releases they come up with next.

When I was at the distillery picking up this bottle, they mentioned they would be releasing a Sherry cask finished peated rye (which I’m always a fan of) but also an Orange Curacao finished peated bourbon barrel which is something I’ve never seen done or expected to hear of a distillery doing.

Also, when I picked up my bottles, I spent some time with the employees discussing their next whiskey releases and I asked them if I could take a photo with my bottle.

As I pulled out my phone to take a photo, the guy I was talking to (named Todd) said, “Sure, let me get in it for you.”

I said, “Heck yeah, jump in the photo! That’d be great.”

He struck a pose and I ended up capturing the moment with this glorious photo
