Is Lagavulin Offerman Edition – 11 Year Charred Oak Cask an Approachable Whisky?

If you’re a fan of smokey, peaty, and oaky whisky, this pour is a real delight.

The charred oak cask finishing really allows the sweeter caramel and brown sugar notes to balance and expand the flavors you get in this bottle compared to the Lagavulin 8 Year or Lagavulin 16 Year.

In addition, you really can taste the charred oak finish which I find very enjoyable.

Is Lagavulin Offerman Edition – 11 Year Charred Oak Cask Complex?

Lagavulin Offerman Edition – Double Charred is quite complex.

It has the traditional Lagavulin smoke and peat flavors, but the additional charred oak cask finishing really brings out the bourbon-style flavors from the American barrels.

And on top of that, there are some “European Oak” casks thrown into the mix “for culture” as the box would say.

“All agree that the ideal mouthful of steak is approximately medium-rare, with a well-seared, flavorsome crust, and one of the best ways to possibly improve this gustatory delight is by washing it down with the ideal dram of Lagavulin 11 Year that we have curated specifically for this task.

We collected charismatic casks of American White Oak, with a few European Oak thrown in for culture, all of which had previously held either scotch or wine.

The cask interiors were shaved down and then heavily re-charred before we filled them with our golden 11-year single malt whisky for maturation.”

The box doesn’t lie because the flavors they are going for are most certainly included in this bottle.

It is midnight as I review this pour so I won’t be making a steak right now, but you can be I will be pouring another glass sometime soon to pair with a nicely seared medium-rare steak.

What are Lagavulin Offerman Edition – 11 Year Charred Oak Cask’s strongest attributes/flavors?

Smoke and peat are always Lagavulin’s strongest flavors.

But this bottle takes it a step further and really does create a nicely balanced experience.

Is Lagavulin Offerman Edition – 11 Year Charred Oak Cask a go-to whisky?

Lagavulin Offerman Edition – 11 Year Double Charred is a very easy whisky to drink if you are a fan of smoke and peat.

At the $90 price point, this is probably a bottle I would reserve for a nice steak dinner or to drink with a juicy grilled burger.

Is Lagavulin Offerman Edition – 11 Year Charred Oak Cask priced accurately to its quality?

Lagavulin Offerman Edition – 11 Year Double Charred Cask does deliver on its price tag.

I find this whisky extremely enjoyable and I can really appreciate the flavors that are added by the additional Charred Oak Cask finishing.

This bottle has a nicer flavor and mouthfeel to me than the standard Lagavulin Offerman Edition Guinness Cask.

Conclusion for Lagavulin Offerman Edition – 11 Year Charred Oak Cask

Lagavulin Offerman Edition – 11 Year Charred Oak Cask is a bottle I’m very glad I purchased.

I haven’t had a bottle of Lagavulin I haven’t enjoyed, but the previous lowest on my rankings was the Lagavulin Offerman Edition Guinness Cask Edition.

I was hesitant to buy this bottle since it is quite similar on the label, but I am very glad I did.

This is a bottle is definitely worth the price tag if you’re a fan of smokey Scotch whisky.

Buy yourself a bottle if you see this one still on the shelves.
