Jack Daniels Rye Whiskey Review - Secret Whiskey Society - Square

Distillery: Jack Daniel Distillery

Region: Lynchburg, Kentucky

Aging: No Age Statement

ABV: 45%

Proof: 90

Mashbill: 70% Rye, 18% Corn, 12% Malted Barley

Price: $25

Appearance: Amber

Nose: Reminds me of a pastrami sandwich with cheese on rye bread, a bit of sweetness, caramel, light fruits, and slight vanilla notes

Palate: Earthy, dirt, grassy flavors right off the bat. Then some sweetness, caramel, and oak come into the picture along with the charcoal-mellowing that is standard for Jack Daniel’s whiskey.

Finish: Medium finish with a bit of heat. Leaves a bit of a spicy grass note in your mouth that tastes rather nice.

Is Jack Daniel’s Rye Approachable?

Jack Danie’s Rye is pretty easy to drink. It’s got a bit of heat to it with its 45% ABV, but it’s not a rough heat. Beginner whiskey drinkers may be a little turned off from the burn in their mouth, but an experienced whiskey drinker will probably enjoy it.

Is Jack Daniel’s Rye Complex?

Jack Daniel’s Rye Whiskey is not really complex, but it does what it sets out to do pretty well. Its mash bill is 70% rye and that’s exactly what you get from this one. The grassy, earthy flavors I pick up come from all that rye and it’s rather enjoyable to drink. It’s not quite as complex as the Jack Daniel’s Rye Single Barrel, but this bottle also only costs half the price.

What are Jack Daniel’s Rye’s strongest attributes/flavors?

Jack Daniel’s Rye’s strongest attribute is its price point. At only $25, you can get a very decent rye whiskey with all the attributes you would expect. Nice grassy, earthy flavors paired with charcoal-mellowing and light caramel and vanilla notes.

Is Jack Daniel’s Rye a go-to whiskey?

If you’re a fan of rye whiskeys, this bottle of Jack Daniel’s Rye may be a good go-to whiskey. If I had to decide between a glass of Jack Daniel’s Rye served neat versus Jack Daniel’s No. 7, I’d prefer the Jack Daniel’s Rye (and I’m typically more a bourbon drinker than rye).

Is Jack Daniel’s Rye priced accurately to its quality?

At $25, Jack Daniel’s Rye is priced accurately to its quality for me. I’m impressed with this bottle and it surpassed my expectations. If it had a higher price point I’d be a bit more critical, but the flavors and experience this one offers are right on par with what I paid.

Overall Conclusion on Jack Daniel’s Rye

Jack Daniel’s Rye is a great bottle of whiskey. I’m impressed with the flavors for just a $25 bottle and I am quite pleased with my purchase. Being a fan of Jack and Cokes but never really enjoying the flavors in the bottle of Jack Daniel’s No. 7 on its own, I expected the same from this bottle and was pleasantly surprised.

So if you’re looking for a good bottle of whiskey and don’t have much cash, this one is for you.

I hope you enjoyed this tasting experience with me.
