Is Jack Daniel’s Old No. 7 Approachable?

Jack Daniel’s Old No. 7 is a pretty entry-level whiskey. We’ve probably all had our share of Jack and Cokes at the bar and should be pretty familiar with the flavor. As a mixer with Coke, this bottle is very approachable. It’s been one of my favorite mixed drinks for years and never disappoints. As a whiskey to drink neat, not so much.

Is Jack Daniel’s Old No. 7 Complex?

This bottle of Jack Daniel’s is not meant to be complex. It’s mostly used as a mixer with Coke and is easily one of the top mixed drinks at the bar. As a standalone whiskey, it is pretty straightforward. Standard caramel and vanilla notes make this one on the sweeter side but you still get the toasted oak barrel and charcoal-mellowed flavors on the back end.

What are Jack Daniel’s Old No. 7’s strongest attributes/flavors?

Jack Daniel’s Old No. 7’s strongest attribute is easily its perfect balance when mixed with Coca-Cola.

Is Jack Daniel’s Old No. 7 a go-to whiskey?

If I go to a bar and their cocktails are no good, a Jack and Coke is my go-to mixed drink of choice. It’s impossible to mess up. As a stand-alone whiskey, there are plenty of better options. And to be honest, I never really branched out into the Jack Daniel’s lineup too much because I just assumed they’d all be similar, but Jack Daniel’s really has some top-tier contenders like Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel Select and Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel – Barrel Proof.

If you’ve always brushed off Jack Daniel’s as a basic whiskey option, I highly recommend giving their higher-tier bottles a shot. They do not disappoint.

Is Jack Daniel’s Old No. 7 priced accurately to its quality?

At $25, I think this bottle is priced perfectly with its quality. While I wouldn’t be drinking this one neat or on the rocks, I will always have a bottle of it in my bar so I can make myself a Jack and Coke any time I’d like.

I hope you enjoyed this tasting experience with me.
