Where I Got This Bottle

This bottle was a gift to me from a friend who was traveling abroad on a cruise line.

It is not available in the US retail market so I am unsure of the exact MSRP price it sells for.

I was curious whether this bottle is different from the Jack Daniels Bonded we have here in the US, so I will be doing a side-by-side comparison soon.

Jack Daniel’s Bottled-In-Bond Tasting Notes

Appearance: Amber

Nose: Smooth sweet caramel, honey, lots of vanilla, toasted oak, charcoal mellowing, light fruits, hints of banana, bananas foster, crisp caramel green apple, brown sugar, subtle spice

Palate: Rich caramel, loads of lovely oak, sweet vanilla, slightly metallic charcoal mellowing notes, tons of fruit, banana, bananas foster, apple, apricot, creme brulee, delicate balance of spice and pepper notes

Finish: Extremely smooth but full finish with a nice oaky tannic spice and oily mouthfeel – leaves you with rich oak and caramel, lots of vanilla and fruit, with a nice peppery spice on the tail end

Is Jack Daniel’s Bottled-In-Bond Approachable?

Jack Daniel’s Bottled-In-Bond is extremely approachable.

It is extremely smooth to drink and is packed with a ton of flavor.

It has all your classic Jack Daniel’s flavors like caramel, oak, vanilla, charcoal mellowing, and fruit, but all of the flavors are so much more pronounced in this bottle versus the standard Jack Daniel’s Old No. 7.

Is Jack Daniel’s Bottled-In-Bond Complex?

Jack Daniel’s Bottled-In-Bond is more complex than I was expecting.

I thought it would just be a slightly stronger version of the Old No. 7 but the Bottled-In-Bond is showing much more flavor and depth.

I noticed the first different on the nose where I found a lot more richness.

On the palate, I found more of the same.

It has many of the similar flavors to the usual Jack Daniel’s whiskey but this bottle is far more delicious and much more enjoyable to sip neat or on the rocks (I’m sipping neat).

And one of the biggest changes is in the finish.

While extremely smooth on the palate and there is nearly no burn at all, you get a very rich mouthfeel and the flavors just seem more pronounced on each sip.

What are Jack Daniel’s Bottled-In-Bond’s strongest attributes/flavors?

Jack Daniel’s Bottled-In-Bond’s strongest attribute is that it is the usual delicious Jack Daniel’s whiskey flavor but enhanced.

If you’re a fan of Jack Daniel’s at all, this is a bottle you will most certainly want to pick up.

What Does Bottled-in-Bond Mean?

Since this bottle is labeled “Bonded” it has a few requirements that it must meet to qualify as a bonded whiskey.

Back in 1897, the government issued the Bottled in Bond Act of 1897 to regulate the inconsistent quality of whiskey of the time. In order to create a standard level of quality, the government provided tax incentives to distilleries that met their requirements.

Bottled in Bond Act of 1897 required the following:

  • Made by a single Distiller
  • One Distillation Season (January-June or July-December)
  • Aged in barrels for a minimum of 4 years
  • Must be aged in a government-bonded warehouse
  • Must be bottled at exactly 100 proof (50% ABV)

By regulating the quality of the whiskey the government was able to incentivize distilleries to create quality products rather than using flavor and coloring agents like iodine, tobacco, and other substances.

While the importance of having “bonded” attached to your whiskey isn’t nearly as important as it was in the late 1800s, it’s still a good way to know the level of whiskey you will be getting when you purchase a bottle of any whiskey with the label “bottled-in-bond” or “bonded whiskey”.

Is Jack Daniel’s Bottled-In-Bond a go-to whiskey?

Jack Daniel’s Bottled-In-Bond is absolutely a go-to whiskey.

I’ve always been a fan of Jack Daniel’s in general, but this bottle is one of my top choices from the brand as a bottle I would drink all the time.

It’s so easy to drink but it offers more flavor and a bit of a kick without becoming too overpowering.

This is a bottle I believe could be a go-to for everyone.

Is Jack Daniel’s Bottled-In-Bond priced accurately to its quality?

My friend said this bottle cost $54 MSRP price from the Dominican Republic.

At that price, I would buy this bottle all day long.

The flavors in this pour as delicious and it is one of the better bottles of Jack Daniel’s I have tasted.

Overall Conclusion on Jack Daniel’s Bottled-In-Bond

Jack Daniel’s Bottled-In-Bond is absolutely delicious.

I am a huge fan of everything about this bottle.

The taste, the nose, the finish – this is a bottle that would be my everyday sipper for sure.

Whether you’re a fan of Jack Daniel’s whiskey or not, you should definitely give this bottle a shot if you have the chance.

It offers so much more flavor than the base Jack Daniel’s Old No. 7 and while I do love the big and bold flavors of the Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel Barrel Proof Bourbon, this bottle has a lot of those similar flavors without all the heat.

It’s just a perfect pour to sit back and relax with.
