Is High West Campfire an Approachable Whiskey?

High West Campfire has a bit of heat to it for being 46% ABV.

The combination of the heat and light peat and smokiness make this a whiskey for experience whiskey drinkers and may be a bit powerful for beginners.

Is High West Campfire Complex?

High West Campfire has a few levels of flavor.

It starts with a bit of sweetness on the nose, but you still get the smoke and peat that carry through.

On the palate, you’re hit with mostly smoke and peat upfront but then it turns a bit into a sweeter honey caramel note which is followed up with a bold finish of rye spice and black pepper.

What are High West Campfire’s strongest attributes/flavors?

High West Campfire’s strongest attribute is that it has a nice mellow peaty smokiness to it without being too overpowering.

This would be a great whiskey for sitting around the campfire, just as the name suggests.

If you’re a fan of Laphroaig and Ardbeg, this may be an American whiskey you would enjoy.

Is High West Campfire a go-to whiskey?

High West Campfire is a bit hot for my tastes as my go-to whiskey.

I prefer the High West Double Rye Rum Barrel Finish a bit more than this one.

Is High West Campfire priced accurately to its quality?

High West Campfire costs a bit more than its quality delivers for me.

If I’m looking for a smokey, peaty whiskey in the $80 price range, I would go more for Laphroaig Cairdeas or Ardbeg Uigeadial.

Conclusion for High West Campfire

High West Campfire is an interesting whiskey with a nice smoke and peaty flavor to it.

American Whiskey doesn’t usually do this flavor profile well, but I have to give High West credit for creating a decent American smokey, peaty whiskey.

While this isn’t a bottle I would likely purchase again, it is a bottle I will enjoy finishing.
