Is Glengoyne 10 Year Scotch an Approachable Whisky?

Glengoyne 10 Scotch Whisky has a little bit of a pepper spice heat on the tail end but in the best way possible.

For beginners, it may be a little spicy but this is a whisky that I think everyone will enjoy.

Is Glengoyne 10 Year Scotch Whisky Complex?

Glengoyne 10 Year Scotch Whisky has a lot of layers of flavor and lots of complexity.

To start, the nose is just spectacular.

It is full of lovely sweet butterscotch and toffee notes that are followed up by light fruits and rich spices.

On the palate, you get much of the same sweetness but it’s more of a buttery caramel and brown sugar than you get on the nose.

You then get a full blast of pepper, spice, and toasted oak that really shines through and wakes up your taste buds.

It’s not a hot and spicy sensation though, it’s more like a tannic, chewy mouthfeel sensation that is quite enjoyable. It reminds me of a nice red wine that really lingers on your palate for a while after you finish each sip.

There are also some very nice fruit flavors on this pour that aren’t quite as prominent as on the nose, but still present.

And the finish is rich and oily which leaves you with a buttery mouthfeel that is full of oaky tannins and pepper spice.

What are Glengoyne 10 Year Scotch’s strongest attributes/flavors?

Glengoyne 10 Year Scotch Whisky’s strongest attribute is definitely its complexity.

Whether it’s the Sherry cask finishing or the fact that they air-dry the malt rather than drying over peat or a direct flame, the flavor notes really stand out.

Is Glengoyne 10 Year Scotch a go-to whisky?

Glengoyne 10 Year Scotch Whisky could easily be a go-to whisky.

While it’s not your basic Scotch whisky, it offers a flavor profile that goes above and beyond what you would normally find in a $50 year bottle of Scotch.

Is Glengoyne 10 Year Scotch Whisky priced accurately to its quality?

Glengoyne 10 Year Old Scotch Whisky definitely delivers on its price tag.

I expected this bottle to cost $80 after tasting it and when I reviewed the price tag, I was shocked that it was a $50 bottle.

Conclusion for Glengoyne 10 Year Scotch Whisky

Glengoyne 10 Year Scotch Whisky was a pleasant surprise to review.

When I review $50 bottles of Scotch, I don’t always expect a ton.

Not only does this bottle deliver a beautiful nose and a spectacular flavor profile, but the finish is extremely enjoyable and the non-chill filtering really shines through.

This is a bottle I will certainly be buying another of when I see it on the shelf.

Do yourself a favor and give this one a shot, especially if you like a bit of spice and pepper on your whisky.
