Booker's The Lumberyard Batch - Whiskey Review

Distillery: Jim Beam

Region: Kentucky

Aging: 7 Years, 1 Month, 7 Days

ABV: 62.4%

Price: $100

Appearance: Dark Amber

Nose: Sweet, caramel notes, vanilla, oak but not a ton of alcohol scent. Surprisingly smooth to nose without getting blasted with what I would expect from a 62.4% ABV.

Palate: Lots of heat followed by caramel candy, buttery, maple syrup with a bit of oak, and chocolate.

Finish: A slight almost smokey, oaky char on the finish, and finishes with a lot of spice and pepper.

Is Booker’s The Lumberyard Batch Approachable?

With a whopping 62.4% ABV, Booker’s Lumberyard Batch is not a whiskey for beginners. It packs quite a bit of heat with some strong spicy flavors on the finish which can knock people back if they aren’t used to drinking whiskey.

Is Booker’s The Lumberyard Batch Complex?

Booker’s The Lumberyard Batch is quite complex in its flavors.

When you take a sip, you’re met with a lot of heat up front, but then mellows out a bit with sweet buttery caramel mixed up with chocolate and maple syrup.

Then it takes a turn toward the spicy side with a bit of pepper on the finish and some nice charred oak from the barrels.

How Does Booker’s The Lumberyard Batch Smell?

It has a lovely smell to it which stands out to me as I expected it to be bold and overpowering. However, it’s quite sweet with pleasant caramel and vanilla notes that I absolutely love and could smell all day.

What are Booker’s The Lumberyard Batch’s strongest attributes/flavors?

The strongest attribute I’m getting from Booker’s The Lumberyard Batch is its pleasant blend of sweet, spicy, and heat. It’s not often that you find a bourbon that is 62.4% ABV that doesn’t absolutely overpower your tastebuds and leave you wanting a lighter, more balanced whiskey.

It is surprisingly drinkable and offers some great flavors if you’re a regular whiskey drinker.

It also has a cool story about the 7th generation distiller Fred Noe’s dad, Booker Noe, and his pre-distillery years before he got into distilling.

Is Booker’s The Lumberyard Batch a go-to whiskey?

This is definitely a special occasion whiskey. This is a whiskey that I would save specifically for a group of friends who are used to tasting whiskey and will appreciate the boldness and complexity of the flavors.

So no, this is not a go-to whiskey. I do highly recommend buying yourself a bottle if you ever get the chance.

Is Booker’s The Lumberyard Batch priced accurately to its quality?

At the $100 price point, I do think this bottle with priced accurately. Not only do you get a unique experience you don’t often find with bourbons, but the bottle is also beautifully packaged and is one of the nicest display bottles you can find.

If you’re looking for something special, Booker’s The Lumberyard Batch is a solid purchase for sure.

It’s also fun to take a look at exactly where this batch was sourced from in the different warehouses.
