Is Blue Spot an Approachable Whiskey?
Blue Spot packs quite a punch, but if you’re an experienced whiskey drinker…you’re gonna love this one.
Beginners… it may be a bit hot.
Is Blue Spot Complex?
Blue Spot Irish Whiskey is incredibly complex and full of depth and flavor.
The nose almost smells more like a bourbon full of caramel, oak, vanilla, and spice.
On the palate, it also tastes a lot like a bourbon (in a good way).
You can tell the mash bill is not corn-based but since it is finished in American Bourbon Barrels, Sherry Butts, and Madiera Casks it offers flavors that really carry through on each sip.
And then there is the finish which is absolutely brilliant.
The finish is not only full of rich bold flavors, but the mouthfeel is just spectacular… possibly better than most bourbons or Scotches that I’ve had.
The cask strength and non-chill filtering on this bottle give it a finish that is probably in my top 10 of any whiskeys I have had.
What are Blue Spot’s strongest attributes/flavors?
Blue Spot’s strongest attribute is absolutely its finish.
It is so packed full of flavor and leaves you with such a nice mouthfeel that you won’t get in most bottles of whiskey.
Is Blue Spot a go-to whiskey?
If I could find Blue Spot on a more regular basis, I would definitely buy more bottles.
I’ve only seen this bottle on the shelf once and I bought myself 3 bottles since I’m a fan of the Yellow Spot Irish Whiskey.
I’m certainly glad I did.
With that being said, this bottle is pretty limited so it’s one I reserve for special occasions.
Is Blue Spot priced accurately to its quality?
Blue Spot delivers above and beyond its price tag.
Yellow Spot Irish Whiskey costs $30 more and while I love that bottle too, I definitely prefer the cask-strength bold flavors of Blue Spot.
Conclusion for Blue Spot
Blue Spot is an Irish Whiskey made just for me.
I’m a huge fan of non-chill filtered, cask-strength whiskey and this bottle delivers on that.
It’s jam-packed full of flavor, has one of the best finishes I’ve experienced in whiskey, and costs less than $100.
If you see this bottle on the shelf, definitely pick it up.
