This bottle of Angel’s Envy is a private selection single-barrel selection by Fine Wine and Good Spirits of Pennsylvania (with a nice misprint on the ABV/Proof Label).
Today we will be tasting this bottle against the standard Angel’s Envy bourbon which is 43.3% ABV and costs $50.
I am very curious to see whether the single barrel selection is worth the additional cost.
So let’s get into it.
Angel’s Envy Single Barrel Bourbon Tasting Notes
Nose: Buttery brown sugar, toffee, vanilla, toasted oak, cinnamon
Palate: Brown sugar, rich caramel, toasted oak, a bit of smoke, light fruits, citrus, anise seed, pepper, rye spice
Finish: Heavy finish with a bit of heat – leaves you with a bit of a buttery, oily mouthfeel full of toasted oak, brown sugar, and a lingering pepper spice
Is Angel’s Envy Single Barrel Bourbon an Approachable Whiskey?
Angel’s Envy Single Barrel packs a little bit of a punch (in a nice way).
It’s not a bottle for beginners. While it does have a bit of heat, it backs it up in caramel and toasted oak flavors that I would expect from a single barrel pick.
Is Angel’s Envy Single Barrel Bourbon Complex?
This Angel’s Envy Single Barrel Private Selection is definitely more complex than your standard Angel’s Envy Bourbon.
It has much bolder caramel, vanilla, and toasted oak flavors on both the nose and the palate that really carry through in the heavier finish.
What are Angel’s Envy Single Barrel Bourbon’s strongest attributes/flavors?
Angel’s Envy Single Barrel has big and bold oak, caramel, and vanilla flavors that are very traditional for a classic bourbon.
Is Angel’s Envy Single Barrel Bourbon a go-to whiskey?
Angel’s Envy Single Barrel is quite tasty, but I don’t think it’d be a go-to whiskey due to its price tag.
Also, with the additional heat, this is a pour I would save for a special occasion or a night with friends.
Is Angel’s Envy Single Barrel Bourbon priced accurately to its quality?
I think this bottle of Angel’s Envy Single Barrel – FWGS Private Selection is a little overpriced. At the same price, I could get a bottle of Angel’s Envy Finished Rum in Rum Casks which is by far my favorite over this bottle.
With that being said, the 54% ABV single barrel selection is a big improvement over the Angel’s Envy bourbon which sits at 43.3% ABV.
I could easily sip on this bottle all night. But is it worth the $90 price tag, I’ll leave that for you to decide.
Since it is a private selection single barrel, they’re pretty limited and I definitely do not regret picking this one up.
Plus, it’s fun to experiment and give you all the scoop on whether the single barrels are worth the extra price tag.
Conclusion for Angel’s Envy Single Barrel Bourbon
Overall, I’m pretty happy with the jump in quality from the standard Angel’s Envy to the FWGS Private Selection Single Barrel.
It kind of makes me wish all bottles of Angel’s Envy were single barrels and cost the same $50. I would likely buy this all the time if that were the case.
Also, not a major deal, but they do add this additional Angel’s Envy Wing Set which is engraved with the saying “Private Selection Single Barrel Angel’s Envy” that comes with each bottle.
