Amrut Peated Cask Strength – Indian Single Malt Whisky Tasting Notes
Appearance: Dark Honey
Nose: Peat, caramel, oak, vanilla, light fruits, citrus zest, graham cracker, malt grain
Palate: Heavy peat, honey and caramel sweetness, spice, pepper, citrus, stone fruits, malt
Finish: Heavy and long finish with a bit of heat and an oily mouthfeel – leaves you with heavy peat, spice, pepper, and a slight sweetness
Is Amrut Peated Cask Strength an Approachable Whisky?
Amrut Peated Cask Strength is a heavy hitter.
It’s packed full of heavy peat flavor and since its cask strength, it’s also full of heat.
This is not a whiskey for beginners.
Is Amrut Peated Cask Strength Complex?
Amrut Peated Cask Strength has a few layers of flavor, but the star of the show is peat.
After you get past some of the peat, you will find a bit of honey and caramel sweetness and a nice level of spice and pepper with a bit of light fruit
What are Amrut Peated Cask Strength’s strongest attributes/flavors?
Amrut Peated Cask Strength’s strongest attribute is definitely that it is a classic Indian whisky with a heavy peat flavor profile.
While this is great if you’re a big fan of peat, I do think that it slightly devalues the quality of the Amrut whisky base flavors.
Is Amrut Peated Cask Strength a go-to whisky?
Amrut Peated Cask Strength is a whisky that I would reserve for special occasions.
I appreciate the cask strength and like most peaty Scotch whisky, I would reserve this one for a cold winter night or when I’m sitting around a campfire.
Is Amrut Peated Cask Strength priced accurately to its quality?
At the $90 price point, there are other peaty whiskies that I would purchase before this one like Laphroaig Cairdeas or Ardbeg Corryvreckan.
Another excellent Peaty whisky that also has a nice sweet side to its flavor profile would be The Big Peat and it only costs $50.
Conclusion for Amrut Peated Cask Strength – Indian Single Malt Whisky
I’m a huge fan of Amrut whisky, but I think the addition of peat to the flavor profile actually detracts from my favorite qualities of this Indian Single Malt Whisky brand.
Rather than buying this peated version of their whiskey, I highly recommend checking out Amrut Cask Strength, Amrut Intermediate Sherry, and Amrut Spectrum 004.
Amrut Cask Strength is slightly cheaper and offers an extremely enjoyable flavor profile and finish.
Amrut Intermediate Sherry is one of the best dessert whiskeys I’ve ever had and Amrut Spectrum 004, while quite hard to find, is in my top 5 whiskeys of all time.
So all-in-all, Amrut Indian Single Malt whiskeys are really making an impact on the Indian whisky market and are a company to keep an eye on.
