Is Altered State Peated Whisky an Approachable Whiskey?

Altered State Peated Whisky is quite an approachable whiskey.

Not only is it easy to drink, but it offers a wide range of flavors that complement each other very well.

Is Altered State Peated Whisky Complex?

Altered State Peated Whisky has a lot of layers of complexity.

The Altered State Distillery is located in my home state of Pennsylvania and it is nice to have a whiskey of this quality come from my own state (there aren’t many distilleries here in PA yet).

This whiskey has a very nice nose and palate that is full of nearly all the flavors you could want in a peated bourbon.

It is full of all the classic bourbon notes of caramel, vanilla, and toasted oak alongside the rye spice from the 21% straight Rye Bourbon in the blend.

Then on the other side of the sip, you get a nice American Single Malt flavor profile with a tiny bit of peat added into the mix.

It’s extremely hard to find an American Single Malt of any kind that has even a remotely delicious flavor profile and Altered State does it well and even adds additional flavors of peat to it and blends it with their 21% straight rye bourbon.

What are Altered State Peated Whisky’s strongest attributes/flavors?

Altered State Peated Whisky’s strongest attribute is the amount of complexity packed into a single pour.

I can honestly say that this whiskey is unlike any other whiskey I have tasted (and I have tasted a lot).

Is Altered State Peated Whisky a go-to whiskey?

Altered State Peated Whisky is a great go-to whiskey.

It’s easy to drink, full of depth, and is a whiskey you will always find new flavors in each time you take a sip.

Is Altered State Peated Whiskey priced accurately to its quality?

Altered State Peated Whiskey delivers on its price tag.

Altered State Distillery prices its whiskey at affordable and accurate price points which make them easy to support and enjoy.

Conclusion for Altered State Peated Whiskey

I first discovered Altered State Peated Whiskey when I was on a trip to Erie with my family.

We were enjoying the Erie beaches and amusement parks I always checked out local breweries and distilleries.

We stopped at Altered State and they had a nice outdoor area to enjoy the weather and inside there was a live band playing to a happy crowd.

They offered flights of their whiskey and I tried a bunch of options.

Altered State Peated Blended Whiskey Review - Secret Whiskey Society - Altered State Distillery Flight Tasting

I remember talking with one of the owners or co-owners of the distillery and they were nice enough to give me some additional samples of the whiskeys that weren’t included in my flight.

After tasting them all, I decided that this bottle of B-Side Blend Peated Whiskey was my favorite and bought this bottle as a souvenir.

It still tastes delicious and is now available in my local liquor store.

I hope they continue to grow in popularity and start expanding so everyone can get a chance to taste their whiskey.

FYI… this is not a sponsored post and they have no idea I’m writing it.

But if anyone from Altered State Distillery does read this, I’d love to review more samples of your whiskey and see if you’ve been working on anything new since I visited the distillery.

If you have the chance to try this whiskey, I recommend giving it a shot and letting us know what you think.
