Finish: Smooth finish that doesn’t linger too long, but packs a nice punch of flavor full of your traditional rye whiskey spices paired with an additional layer of earthy notes, fruit flavors, and an additional caramelized brown sugar sweetness
Is Templeton Rye Finished in Tequila Casks an Approachable Whiskey?
Templeton Rye Finished in Tequila Casks is easy to drink and is quite smooth for a rye whiskey.
There is an interesting dynamic going on between the rye whiskey and tequila finish that I can appreciate. While the two are somewhat polarizing flavor profiles, each sip piques my curiosity and takes my taste buds in multiple directions.
That being said, this is a whiskey that I do think most people can enjoy so long as you’re on the adventurous side and willing to stray away from your usual expectations from rye whiskey.
Is Templeton Rye Finished in Tequila Casks Complex?
Templeton Rye Tequila Cask Finish offers a bit more complexity than I expected.
I’m a fan of Templeton Rye overall so I was curious to see how the Tequila cask finish would affect the base rye whiskey.
The biggest factor I noticed is that there seems to be a nice earthy flavor from the tequila finish that I enjoy paired with the rye spice of Templeton.
In addition, I get more light fruit and citrus flavors from the tequila finish.
What are Templeton Rye Finished in Tequila Casks’s strongest attributes/flavors?
Templeton Rye Tequila Cask’s strongest attribute is that it branches outside your standard whiskey flavor profile.
Often, whiskeys will say they are finished in a sherry cask or other type of barrel and when you taste the whiskey, you can’t really taste the difference on a significant level.
With the Tequila Corralejo Extra Anejo Casks, you get a very significant addition to your usual Templeton Rye whiskey flavor profile.
Is Templeton Rye Finished in Tequila Casks a go-to whiskey?
Templeton Rye Tequila Cask Finish is a limited-release bottle so it isn’t one that I will be drinking regularly, but it is quite interesting.
This is a bottle I will pull out and sample with friends who I know enjoy a good Tequila but are also whiskey fans.
And while it is easy to drink and goes down smooth, I’d probably go with the Templeton Rye 10 Year as more of a go-to choice.
Is Templeton Rye Finished in Tequila Casks priced accurately to its quality?
Templeton Rye Tequila Cask Finish is priced quite nicely for its quality.
At right around the $50 price point, it is a nicely finished rye whiskey for only $15 more than the base Templeton 4-Year Rye Whiskey.
If this weren’t a limited-release bottle, I would almost always purchase this over the 4-Year Templeton Rye (unless I’m buying it for my favorite Becherovka Old Fashioned recipe).

I am satisfied with my purchase of this bottle of Templeton Rye Finished in Tequila Casks.
I feel like the price point is just right and while I wouldn’t prefer this over some of the other Templeton Rye whiskeys (or other brands) as a go-to whiskey, the combination of flavors is quite intriguing.
I found myself reaching back for another sip of this whiskey more than most as I tried to decipher more about the flavors I was experiencing during the review.
If you’re a whiskey fan who also enjoys a nice bottle of tequila, do yourself a favor and buy a bottle of this one.
It will truly send your taste buds for a loop.
