Is Lux Row Four Grain Double Single Barrel Bourbon an Approachable Whiskey?
Lux Row Four Grain is an interesting combination of flavors.
It has a little bit of heat on it so I’m not sure this would be the best choice for beginners to bourbon, but experienced bourbon drinkers will certainly have some fun picking out the flavor notes they’re finding in this one.
Is Lux Row Four Grain Double Single Barrel Bourbon Complex?
Lux Row Four Grain Double Single Barrel is surprisingly complex.
Not so much because it’s an incredibly deep whiskey, but more because it combines two single-barrel expressions of two totally different types of whiskey.
To start, the nose was the most puzzling thing about this pour.
Right off the bat, I got a ton of sweet wheat grain notes that made me think this would be a sweet-tasting whiskey.
But the rye bourbon single-barrel shines through on the palate with some peppery rye spice.
The finish is quite full with a nice oily mouthfeel that is full of rich oaky tannic spice and leaves a bit of each single-barrel flavor profile lingering on the palate along with some pepper spice on the tail end.
And to be honest, if I sip this one straight over the top of my tongue I get a lot more of the wheat flavor profile.
If I let it linger in my mouth for a bit and get to the sides of my tongue, I get some really nice rye spice flavors.
What are Lux Row Four Grain Double Single Barrel Bourbon’s strongest attributes/flavors?
Lux Row Four Grain Double Single Barrel’s strongest attribute is exactly what it says on the label – you get two completely different flavor profiles in every single sip.
Is Lux Row Four Grain Double Single Barrel Bourbon a go-to whiskey?
Lux Row Four Grain Double Single Barrel is a bourbon that doesn’t show up too often in my area, but even if it did, this one is a bottle I’d sip on special occasions when I’m looking for a unique blend of flavors.
I could easily drink this whiskey more often, but to truly appreciate all the flavors it offers I would want to sit and spend a little time with the pour.
Is Lux Row Four Grain Double Single Barrel Bourbon priced accurately to its quality?
Lux Row Four Grain Double Single Barrel creeps up toward the 60% ABV range and for that fact, I think it delivers on its price tag.
If you’re a fan of wheated bourbons and rye bourbons, this one will definitely be worth your money.
If you aren’t a fan of either of those, maybe this isn’t the bottle for you.
Conclusion for Lux Row Four Grain Double Single Barrel Bourbon
Lux Row Four Grain Double Single Barrel is a unique whiskey and it is designed to be exactly that.
They decided to choose two individual single-barrel expressions of wheated and ryed bourbon to blend into this four-grain mash bill.
The flavors they chose are very distinct and truly do shine through in each sip I take.
I don’t know if this would be my regular choice of bourbon, but it is really fun to sit and really pay attention to the flavors they successfully contained in this bottle.
As mentioned above, if you’re a fan of wheated bourbon and ryed bourbon, this is a bottle you should most certainly buy.
